Emissions testing 4 Years, 11 Months ago
Just wanted to start a new subject I'm not seeing anywhere. To us poor folks here in California (and coming to a state near you), there's a strong chance the state will require smog tests starting in 2010. I don't think our R*'s have cats, but from what I'm reading on the ARB web site, they will be checking for evap controls and AIS being in place. Does anybody know what they check in AZ?

Only certain parts of AZ get emission checked, around Flagstaff, Tucson, Maricopa county and parts of Pinal county. I ran my 2000 Road* through without AIS and the only test they did was an idle check at the tailpipe. And the standards are very laxed for bikes compared to cares. Good Luck

I'm just getting a little nervous cause CA lawmakers have a bad tendency to go overboard with their emission laws. There are over 400,000 registered motorcycles in CA and over 60% have "tampered exhaust systems". According the the latest bill though, AB 829, they are finally going to allow CARB approved modifications as long as all the emission controls are in place with means you can run aftermarket intake, but if the bike is equipped with a cat, it must still retain a cat. This is one of the reasons that I've been reluctant to sell my take-off parts . Am I just being paranoid???

I grew up in California, and have lived there twice since. I'm never going back. You can't be too paranoid about what's gonna be regulated next in the People's Republic of California, comrade... My two cents ($2.13 after California taxes added... )
