TOOL KIT ? 4 Years, 11 Months ago
Hi folks. I've had my 2000 Roadstar for abotu 6 weeks now. Mongo, thank you very much for the article on changing oil. It is a well written article and easy to use. My bike didn't have a tool kit. What size wrenches & sockets are usually included in the tool kit? And what other tools are recommended to carry on the bike? I know we could make a 100 piece tool kit, but I'm just trying to have at least the same tools that would come with the bike, on a normal basis. Of course the dealer has tool kits, but they're nuts on the prices. Thanks.

If you want to get the OEM tool kit they have them on e-bay. IMO the tool kit that comes with the bike suck your better off just making up your own. As to what you put in it guess you need to just look around the bike and decide what you would need which would depend on how much you want to carry around with you.

Agreed the OEM tools leave a lot to be desired. I will make up my own kit with good tools, just wanted to have a base line of what tools come in the kit. For ON the bike, I want to keep it to the minimum. Then add any tools I may need to keep in the garage.

Re:TOOL KIT ? 4 Years, 11 Months ago
to start try a:

small adjustable end wrench
combo screw driver (can use the flat side removed to adjust carb pms)
good metal sided metric allen multi set (the ones that fold like swissarmy knife)
plug socket, ratchet, extention ( the kit one is crap)
plyers or I got a wally world cheap multi tool(like leatherman)
tire guage

there are more i'm sure but these seam to fit most needs out and about and fit in the spot.
oil the tools and roll in a couple shop rags

i just got my bike few months ago and have been having fun tearing into it. hope you enjoy yours. tear into it, good luck, ride safe!

Yeah, I know whats even more fun is when the Harley guys come up and want to race I'm like do you know what kind of bike I have? then I blow their chrome off I had a guy on a Dyna wide glide try to race a few of us riding together He raced me and I blew him away then he rides up to my friend on a Victory Jackpot and races him you can guess how that one ended

The common wrenchs are metric 8,10,12,14 spring adjuster is a 32.....I think there is also a 22 and 27 box wrench for the steering and the axle nuts...a couple of hex keys are good.... 4 and 5 ....phillips and standard screwdrivers a pair of pliars.... plug wrench is handy.....of course a great thing is a wife or girlfriend that will load your truck with all your tools anytime and come to the rescue wherever you are day or night ..... .....so this should help you get started.....Coug
