Radial tires ? 1 Year, 11 Months ago
I have never used radials on a bike and would like to know the pro's and con's . What is the difference in handling, pertaining to a large bike. I didn't know they were used on bikes untill recently.

This has probably been covered before, but I couldn't find it with a quick brouse.

Thank's Coot

The radial tires I have on my sport bike are great. The only negative I know of is if you hit pot hole in the wrong way the steel belts get bent and stay that way. My car tires did this once, but never on the bike. I replaced the front and rear tires with a Michelin pilot 2 and the wife could tell the difference even riding on the bike in the passenger position. She said the bike seemed more sure footed and more solidly connected to the road. The cost is the only other drawback to radials, but you will save more on fuel. My gas mileage went from an average of 34 mpg to 42mpg and the only change was the radial tires.

150/80R16 rears are available. I do not see any 130/90R16; however, 130/70R16 is available it is a lower profile tire and would lower the front a bit.

I just ordered a Michelin Commander rear radial tire (150/80R16H) from Bike Bandit. They have a closeout on our size at $125.97. Regular price is supposed to be $175.00. The reviews say that the tire lasts a liitle longer and getting better fuel mileage. I have 8,500 miles on my current Commander bias-ply and have another 2.5k or so to go. Just wanted to have this as a backup.

Curt, I think that is an old wives tale. The Harley Crossbones comes from the factory with a rear radial and a bias front. So does the Yamaha Raider. And of course, my Venture has a radial car tire on the rear and a bias on the front.
