Slipping clutch 1 Year, 7 Months ago
My clutch will slip when I get on it and will slip really bad when the engine is cold, gets better when the oil gets warm and thinner. I hear you can double up on springs or get a better spring. The bike only has 20 grand on the clock, so I am sure the plates are O-K. What is entailed and is it hard to do?

Just a thought, but, I changed to a dedicated "wet clutch" oil...mobil-1 v-twin 20/50 with a m-1 110 filter...sure helped my slippage

I put the Barnett's pressure plate in at 26,000 miles when mine started slipping. You can put a Warrior spring in or replace the stock with a stock spring. I went Barnett so I would never have to do it again. The stock spring is a leaf type and prone to this issue. Barnett is a set of coil springs and works great and can take what ever you do to your scooter down the road.

My first question would be,have you checked the adjustment? The next would be what oil are you running?Has this just started since an oil change?
There are several options(less money)as adding springs. Bob said it best go with the Barnett.

If you put the barnett SR2 in it won't matter what oil you run the clutch will lock up!!

I am running Motul oil, which is supposedly for wet clutches. The cable adjustment is spot-on, and it has been slipping for awhile, but only when I "get on it". It slips a lot less when the oil is hot. I was thinking of running some MMO in the oil for a few miles before the next oil change as well. What's the deal with stacking stock springs? Somewhere I heard about doing this....

You can stack the stock spring, and it will cost less, but this is not a quick job, not particularly difficult, but you will not want to pop that cover off on any sort of regular basis. That is why I went Barnett. The plates are probably good with only 20K on them and if the oil does not have friction modifiers it is OK. You will loose about a quart and a half when you do the pressure plate change so be ready. If you stack stock springs or go with the heavier Warrior spring in 20K you may be right where you are now. If you put the Barnett in you won't be back for that reason again. Yes the Barnett is pricey, but my Baby is worth it.

Hey Im in the exact same boat as this guy. Im actually ordering the barrons plate this week. How long does a job like this take? Any special tools needed?Does anyone have step by step instructions I can print off and have beside me when I do the job? Thanks.

Before you change the spring, check the adjustment at the clutch lever. If it'd too tight, it will cause the clutch to slip.
I put a warrior spring in my '00 about 3 yrs. ago. Time well spent.
