Another Plug Problem 4 Years, 11 Months ago
While sevicing the bike today I found something kinda stange. I was changing the plugs and found that one of the plugs was fouled. What would cause only one plug to foul? I could understand if both plugs in one cylinder were fouled, but only one seems odd. If it makes a difference, it was the left rear plug. I'm thinking that maybe the plug itself is bad (Iridiums with a little over 14,000 miles on them), but that's just a guess. I know that seems like alot of miles on a set of plugs, but I was told that the Iridiums should last 2-3 times longer than standard plugs. Any ideas????
Thahks for any input!!

Aaron

Hmmm ... that's a coincidence.

Just posting to Musky that last year a had a problem with one of my spark plugs ... it was also the left rear plug.

I never did resolve whether it was the plug or the wire but when I switch if for a front plug everything work again and it has never happened again.

Thanks Doc. I'll just keep an eye on it and see what happens. If it fouls again I'll go from there. As a preventative measure I added about 3 ounces of Seafoam to help clean up any carbon that may have formed on the valve.
I do have another question though. The plugs I put in are the stock NGKs. Since I bought the bike with the Iridiums already in it, how often should the stock ones be changed? The service manual says every 8,000 miles, but that seems pretty frequent. Any thoughts????
Thanks!!!

I use the stock NGKs and change them at about that. I do notice a slight difference but it may be all in my mind as I change them at the beginning of the season.
