If you get one, choose your colors wisely. You might not want, say a red and white one or a red and gold one.

Unless you support a local motorcycle club and can back it up if you get asked by a member.
+1!

The DB that gave me crap a few months ago here at work about "parking too close" is sporting a red and white one now. Interesting.....I still love the idea of leaving a few Tbsp of oil on the pavement under his bike where he parks it each day!

LOL...now that's funny! I got a buddy who just got "another brand bike " and he is made a few comments on how he has a "real" bike. I think I might just have to try this trick. I wonder how many times he'll bring it to the dealership before he catches on...

I have a very good friend that was tight with a club member. The club member gave him a whip with the clubs colors and that showed he was a "friend of the club". It also served notice for people to stay away from his bike because people around here know if you mess with someones bike that is associated with a club, there is a price to be paid. I was with him a few times when a club member casually asked him about the whip. He would respond with the members road name that gave him the whip and all was good.

Whenever we would ride from Washington south, he would remove his whip at the CA border because he didn't want trouble with a rival club that has the territory down there.

With that kind of stigma around the whips, I choose not to run one. Especially on a metric bike.

And it would have to be dire for me to draw my weapon on a club member. Seriously. I have never met a closer group of people. You mess with one, you mess with the entire club.

Very good advice. And around my neck of the woods, it's black-and-white. And a bandana on the handlebars draws much less attention and does the same thing. Most of the guys I know regard those whips as BS. Don't mean to offend anyone.

i assume the draw a weapon comment was in response to my comment. don't get me wrong, I am never an advocate of violence, but I just think it is flat ridiculous for anyone to tell me what color I can/should have on anything I own. If I happened to have a certain color bike and accessories, and certain people didn't like it....tough! My only point is that at the instance someone wants to take their opinion about colors to the next level, I would not have anything of it and defend myself accordingly. I think the whole concpt that certain gangs/clubs own a certain color combination is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of, and people who passively promote that idea by giving way to the gangs/clubs areas much to blame.

Lets get back to whips and away from the club discussion, it's a pointless debate and won't be solved on the Clinic.

I personally think they're kinda cool looking, I have a red and gold one.

First I saw one was at the leather shop. I'm "what the braided leather rope for?" He was telling me that they originally go way back when you would have one to beat off a dog that was chasing you. Back when bikes were slow. He also said you would put in on the clutch handle, not the brake so you could keep on the throttle and still whip the dog. Later the biker thing took it over and it became a colors thing. Urban legend maybe? Don't know.

I thought at first it was some type of weapon but to be honest, if some biker whipped that 36 inch whip at me, I'd start laughing and say something stupid like "what are you gay or something?" Not that there is anything wrong with being gay
