Cleaning Question  2 Years, 8 Months ago
Hey guys, I know that I have seen this in a post before, but for the life of me I can not find it...So let me start by saying sorry for starting a new Thread on something I know is out there. I just had a question on cleaning the windshield...I have noticed that my windshield has some swirl marks in it and some scratches...I dont want to mess it up anymore...what do I use to clean it? I heard that windex and some other chemicals hurt it...just best to use some dishsoap and warm water?

I can't speak for all shields but the stock yamaha shield has a coating. if you use anything other than soap and water, you ruin it. I speak from experience. Mine is now peeling the coating and looks like crap...

Really? Ya mine is the stock shield andis starting to look like the old owner didn't know what the crap he was doing when cleaning the shield. I think for now ill stick to soapy water and I guess see what happens. It can only get worse and that will force me to get a new one . Ill research it a little more.

I now use just plain warm water and soap with a soft cloth. I let the water and soap soak on the shield so the dead bugs soften up and don't scratch up the plastic
I didn't look at the product from above and it might be ok but just make sure it won't harm that coating.

Ya it makes sense. I called a bunch of different dealers and they said to just use warm water and soap. So I think im just going to stick to that. Thanks for the info tho!

Amen. It's like a miracle. Spray it on, wait a few seconds, and gently wipe off bugs and fine dirt side-to side with a soft clean cloth. Works on the headlights, chrome, paint, etc. It does leave a very slight sheen noticeable on chrome, but no big deal. Been using it all summer and haven't seen any evidence of harm to my stock windshield.

I use BOM, aka Capt. Richard's Best Nothing better. You can clean your whole bike with it. NO residue! And, it makes it so much easier to clean up next time you do it.

It's all I use, All I'll EVER use......!
