The wife and I are looking at going to with an '08 Ultra Classic next month from HD. I love my R* and as I stated in another post where I was looking for some tech help, I'd love to keep it and trick it out for 1-up riding just for me to have fun on, but that ain't part of the deal with the other half.
We went out last week and tested out an '07 Ultra, completely different ride. Really smooth and a true tourer. To me, my Roadie is a beast, a real man's biek and I love that about it, but my wife has a bad back and even with a better spring, those surprise jolts when we hit unseen bulges or pits in the road really do her back in. For this reason we've decided to move to something different.
I always loved the fact I could pull into a parking lot full of HD's on my Roadie and people would wander through looking at all the bikes, but would stop and take a good long look at my R* just because it was different. I've always said HD was saturating the market. After reading through some of the HD forums, mainly hdformums.com, I've come to the conclusion that a lot of HD owners think the same thing. I've alse come to the conclusion that the majority of HD owners don't really care what anyone rides, just that they ride. I was quite surprised by this as I expected to see a LOT of bashing. There was very little at all, and most of them even talk about the disgust they have that the majority of the parts for their rides are no longer made here in the US, but overseas.
As I've rambled along long enough, I did consider the Venture but as I did say, I love the R* because it feels and looks like a real man's bike, and to me the Venture is nice, but just a bit too refined looking for my taste (you can read that as girly). GW's are definitely out. Nothing wrong with them in my book, but for me I have it in my head that they would be too close to driving a car.
My 3c's. I don't want change, though if we follow through with the Ultra purchase, I may ask for the 3c's back to help out with the payments!
