WHICH AFTERMARKET SEAT TO BUY? 4 Years, 11 Months ago
|
|
|
Hello,
Well, I have only put about 300 miles on my new '07 Silverado and I know one thing for sure... the standard seat must go!
It became apparent when I started having lower back pain problems after riding a continuous 75 miles. Granted, I'm coming off of an '05 BMW K1200 LT that had a fantastic back rest for the rider and passenger. Now, there is no support and long distance riding isn't an option until I opt for a new seat WITH a backrest. The question is... which seat would serve me best?
The Yamaha optional seat looks just like a Corbin and I know the Corbin backrest is just about useless, so that option is out. I'm leaning toward the Ultimate seat, but the Mustang looks good too. Any other seats out there with lower back support?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Steve

I'm on my third Yamaha (out of about 10 bikes). Agreed, the stock seat will numb your butt. My last two bikes I've added a Mustang studded seat w/back rest, and passenger seat. About two weeks ago I did a 900 mile trip with no back pain or butt problems. If you're tall (I'm 5'8" the Mustang tends to put you further forward. No problem for me, though as I like the position.

Hello smgray, you'll get all kinds of opinions here
I've got the mustang seat with backrest and it works just fine for me @5'9".
but if you are over 6' it might sit you forward more than you like.
I've heard good things about the ultimate with the backrest. Some of the larger fellows here opt for it. But it boils down to what you like.
That's enough from me, welcome to the clinic and I hope you find what works for
you.

The favorite "long-distance seats" are:
Ultimate
Mustang
Corbin (were also sold as a Star accessory by Yamaha as "Custom" seats)
Comfort Cruise (sold by Yamaha and made by Hart?)
Generally, if you're in the 6-foot and under category, riders prefer the Mustang Vintage Wide Touring. If you're in the 6-foot and over category, riders prefer the Ultimate Mid-Rider seat.
I'm getting ready to order my first Ultimate seat set. I may order it today.
The Ultimates are a lot of money, but they're worth it, if you ride.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, folks. I'm going to do a little more research on the Mustand and Ultimate and make a decision soon. At 6'3", its looking like the Ultimate may be the better choice but I'm not sure yet.

Folks
Have been reading your inputs with interest. Is there a reason there seems to be no interest in Saddleman products?

According to their web-site, there is no model that fits a Road Star!

Hey guys, I did a bunch of research, not only on RS Forum but online, even asking Harley guys I know (yeah, go figure) before I ordered a 4-piece Ultimate Seat setup. Wife and I both love it...my butt would be numb in 40 miles with stock seat, just rode all day last Saturday and it feels GREAT! Big $$$ but worth every penny. I highly recommend it. I have a '05 RS, love it. - Rod.
