Not to bust anybody's chopsbut I would like to hear the rest of this story. There are a lot of things that just do not click in my understanding of how things work.
(1) The cop was dumbfounded? No, if that's how it happened, the cop was just dumb.
(2) The bike was repoed without any notice of payment due? That's not one mistake, that is a bunch of errors made over a few week period.
(3) Having to spend Veterns Day without his bike? One trip to the impound lot with the title would have had people jumping all over themselves trying to cover their azz.
(4) The repo people have to have a piece of paper in hand that details what is to be repoed, why it is repoed, who ordered the repo and who was assigned the repo. Get a copy of that paper NOW before anything can be changed. The owner of the bike has a legal right to see that paper.
(5) Statements such as "banks have been screwing us forever" are usually used when you are at fault and just want some sympathy. As a dealer, a collector, a co-signer, a borrower and payment maker for years, I have yet to find a case where the bank did not follow the letter of the contract, and if you felt you were screwed, then you didn't read the contract before signing it.
(6) If it did happen as described in the original post, then a lawsuit with a list of responsible parties is definately the next step. A "Free" consultation with a lawyer will explain all the possibilities, and such a case is usually taken on a percentage basis. No cost is involved.
(7) The lawyer, the courts amd the police will all require the collection of all information and evidence before making a judgement, and I would suggest we all do the same.
Good luck to the gentleman who lost the bike, and we should all wish him the best.

I would rather be on my bike thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about my bike.

I agree with Greyphart...call all news stations regardless of the bank admitting wrong doing...as far as getting an attorney...that is like a single nat on an elephants ass.
Hope all works out.

I can't wait to see how this story turns out.
Wow I think I would have a heart attack if I came out to the garage and my Roadie was gone...

UPDATE! Bike owner will be retrieving motorcycle Monday in Phoenix. He does,in fact posses the title. Here's the remainder of this confusing story: He purchased the bike from the prior owner whom bought it on one of those dealer credit cards. Even though the title changed hands, the prior owner still had an outstanding balance on the cc. The financing company repossessed the bike due to this balance. Luckily, the prior owner is a Biker and Stand-up Guy and immediately cleared this debt up with the cc company . I'm as confused as anyone as I thought when you had a title, you had 100 percent ownership with no liens !

In Wisconsin, They will issue you a title. However, The creditor will be listed on the title as the secured party until the debt has been satisfied. Then you need to get a release from the creditor and get a new title with the creditor removed.
