How many of you curmudgeons are zeroed in 1 Year, 6 Months ago
jet wise with your only performance mods being after market air and exhaust, ported is OK, AIS and fuel pump removal is OK.....AND ARE STILL GETTING 50 PLUS MPG? If so, could you please state your brand of Jets, the size your using (main & pilot), the notch your clip is on and the turns of your PMS, your input is much appreciated and invaluable to me, and will probably help a lot of other folks also (elevation is helpful)...TYIA

It stands to reason (to me) that if the mods are the same (or similar), then, everyone should be jetted accordingly, saving the new jetter's a lot of unnecessary headache and guessing and expense, and thats what we're here for, right?

Know what you mean about the settings. It's my understanding that little things can make a big difference sometimes though. Geographical location, riding habits, type of plugs/exhaust, etc. are some of the factors. Gonna do mine eventually so I'm interested also.

Re:How many of you curmudgeons are zeroed in 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Well, I'm currently at (using the DJ kit)47-49 MPG, up from 37 MPG when jetting as per directions (OUCH!) Main is 190, Pilot back to stock, 2.5 PMS and 4th clip...I think perhaps if I move the clip to 3rd notch it may put me back over the 50-MPG mark, (Sea Level) any comments would be appreciated, one thing I still don't understand is, all the bikes are jetted the same throughout the Country, perhaps the World when sold new and I'm sure if elevation had so much to do with it, then, they must run like shit right from the factory? How could they sell them if that was the case?

Isn't that what they do when they charge us that wonderful set up fee?

well, I think if the brass plugs are still in it and the bowl screws are set at factory tolerances, then, I'd guess no...I think the set up fee is for the X-mas party

According to the boys next door who put together all the Ducati MC's in Seattle, they don't touch the carb

Re:How many of you curmudgeons are zeroed in 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Well I think my scoot is pretty dialed in and it does not get 50 MPG and never has. Stone stock it got about 37 - 38 city and 42 - 44 highway steady cruise or 70 MPH. With my current set up Barons BAK, Cobra Speedster Slashdown, Stock ported manifold, Dyna 3000 on 34a, Barons needle 4th groove, Mikuni main 170, stock pilot, PMS at 2.25 turns, at Sea Level I get ~38 city, and 42 - 44 highway. Of course I rarely ride speed limit unless I am riding with the Star Chapter and at 78 to 82 I get about 40 MPG. I have never attained 50 MPG, the best was on a gentle day riding with the Chapter and I got a shade over 46. My plugs don't show any excess richness, the scoot runs very strong and the WOT is on the edge of lean, so my mileage in MHO is as good as it will get. Factors that must also be considerd are loading, and weather. I weigh about 206 and ride mostly one up. There are so many variables that getting a one off setting is probably challenging and for those trying to get 50 MPG consistently they will be working at it a while. Many who claim 50 MPG are stating a one time fill when maybe they did not really squeeze as much in as they did last time and it looks like they went a lot of miles for a less gas. The next tank is not so good as they top it off and the mileage seems to go down The only way to be sure is to track for many miles, several tanks and see what the trend is. If you really want to get detailed about it not loading and weather as you go. I am not saying 50 is impossible just difficult to get consistently IMHO.

I wrote this up many moons ago, and when I ran the stock carb. I have since made some mental note changes after gathering more info, but never updated the article. reading about another few thousand carb posts, talking to the Mikuni lead tech for numerous hours as well as Bob Yost Both these guys were more for the 42hsr carb.
