#3147 TMK (User) Sometimes Wrong But Never In Doubt Platinum Boarder Posts: 1013 Gasoline Poll--- What Runs Best? 6 Years, 8 Months ago   I started out using regular and was getting the knocking. Switched to premium and the bike ran great but I read here not to do that unless I have high compression pistons. So, back to regular! I have found that the bike runs good on Citgo 87 and runs like $hit on Gulf 87...Sunoco and Amoco 87 are okay... What gas do you all use? You are correct, most riders agree that the use of Premium is unnecessary for the stock engine. I've also read that gas from different stations may affect the bike differently. Have not done a thing to the engine (so far). Once in a while I will get a little knocking, not enough to worry about. I try to run Chevron since it seems to run best in my bike, but I just got a batch from a station I do not regularly use that had me pinging up a storm, after about half a tank of that I topped off at my regular regular station I regularly go too and she came back alive just fine. A lot of guys do not like Shell gas. That is all I ever ran in my sport bikes (high octane) and they ran best on it.
