has anyone tried to gut the oem muffler?

can it be done ??

bartish you are in luck, if you go to the tech articles, there are detailed instructions on how to do this. I did all 3 mods before putting my V&H on. Good luck

i did that before on my bike and then i hated the sound so i went and got some v&h longshot hs

I bi-passed everything and cut them off after the mufflers/baffles and made short shots out of them, too damned loud, even the HD boys raised their heads and gave them a second look, I opted for V&H short shots soon thereafter and am very happy with them

Yep, you can gut them, but keep in mind that without back pressure you will lose low end tq. And open pipes are a little harder to tune the carb to.
