V&H Longshots Partial Baffle-ectomy! 1 Year, 5 Months ago
Decided to remove a portion of the baffles on the V&H Longshots on the R* yesterday. Always loved the sound, but was kind of drowned out by the Harleys I ride with particularly at idle. I was stunned to find the baffles were 20" long! I removed 8" of material. Before re-installing had to hear the bike without baffles at idle, and Oh My ! Did not leave out because I'm unwilling to give up performance. Upon installing the modified baffles, I found the tone under load to be the same only quite a bit louder with more bark but not rasp or jaybrake effects. At idle the difference is minimal . Overall, I'm happy with the difference. I'm gonna ride a bit before deciding to remove more material. Happy with this mod!

Yeah I did the same on my old bike - I removed a little at a time. I ended up cutting them about 1/2 as long as they originally came.

I did the same thing, cut them 1/2 as long as they came. Another trick you may want to try is fabricate a piece of steel that can be bent into an L and attach directly behind the baffles. This increases the back pressure and changes the sound alittle by making it a bit deeper and more throaty. Love the way my bike sounds now. Been like that for 2 years now with now issues and i have a ton of power.

hmmmm,

To any of you that have done this. Have you picked up any popping or blubbering on decel?

I hated the constant popping and blubs that I got so I put the baffles back in. I think the bike performs so much better with them in and have considered the cut down as well but would love to hear back from you guys if you have noticed any of the above mentioned sounds.

I took off another 4" off the baffles yesterday(from 20" to 8", and PERFECT! Louder at all levels without being obnoxious nor raspy with minimal jaybraking on decel. Absolutely no noticeable power-loss and Awesome BARK! Ought to give my bros on Harleys a run for their $$!

Hey Stocked, when i cut my baffles it did pop abit on decel, however once i put in that L bracket for back pressure the popping went away and gave it a more throaty sound. Hope this helps, good luck

I did an 8" cut down, on each baffle, about an hour ago and like the the result. The exhaust sound is just a bit louder than before with a deep tone and no blubbering on decel on the initial run. We'll see what it does after a good warm up.

That was my free christmas gift to myself.

Thanks Johnny, Shamrock, and Tla for the idea and advice.

Merry Christmas!

I am running mine without baffles. Does removing them really cost that much power. I have never ran mine with them because I love the sound without.

I felt the same about the way they sounded without baffles. While all bikes will probably act a little different with them back in mine just seemed to run better. The throttle response was real crisp and the bike just seemed happier with them in. So I compromised with it and put them in 1/2 cut. Try it and see how yours acts - it only takes a minute.
