Is it a good idea to also change the Oil pump gear while I'm in there? Or was that just on older model bikes that needed a better Oil pump gear? I have an 07 1700cc.

You have the new style pump gear so no need to change it.

Re:Barnett Clutch upgrade 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I've recently noticed mines slipping hitting it hard in 4th or 5th ('01 with 50K miles). I've only riden it hard a couple times to really check it out. Once when it was warm outside (80) then again at night in the cold (50). It didn't do it at all in the cold. I know why the roadstars do this, but is this a heat related issue? I'm planning a long wknd trip out to AZ in 3 weeks where it will be cold to mild (65 tops) the entire time so will I have an issue? I'm not planning on the upgrade until later if I can get away with it. Will it get worse?

the hardest part of doing the spring kit is puting the left floorboard back on. drain the oil take the floorboard off take the clutch cable off at the cover take the plastic front cover off take the clutch cover the the spring plate bolts out reverse order.

If you do not have ball end allen wrenches then you will have to remove the floorboard. With ball end allen wrenches you do not have to remove the floorboard.

If you're going to install a new Yamaha spring or double your spring you might want to consider replacing the bearing also. A replacement that is supposed to be much more durable than the stock bearing is sold under the bearing number 7003A.

I think goody (goodwis1) on The Road Star Riders forum was the first to try this.

Wow! An 07 and you need a clutch already? How many miles you have on it? I have an 07 with a little over 10k. I hope I won't need a clutch to soon.

I ride hard, and I've noticed after the dealer did an oil change for me and they put in that crap Yama-lube, that it started to slip when twisting the throttle trying to pass someone, then I noticed it more often when ever I put some torque to it. I switched to Mobile 1 V-twin and it's a little better, but it's still there, so I'm going to put the better springs on and get a LOCK on it when I twist it.

Nothing scarier than having the trailer behind you and you are on a curvy two lane and feel it slipping when you go to pass a semi

Miles? I bought the bike NEW in the end of 08, I've been to 2 of the 3 Meet & Greets (about 2000-2500 miles on the Hi-way each) I just turned 17K last month, and I ride as much as I can, even in the winter up in Wisconsin. The bike gets used a lot.
