I have been looking at exhaust ? FI or Carb 1 Year, 4 Months ago
This may be a dumb question, but on one of the HD forums, There was a post that an HD doesn't sound like a HD anymore. The groups reply was that since HD went Fuel Injected, They lost that sound.

Now this link is someone's exhaust of a R* and it is in the Carburetor years. Can R* owners achive this sound with the FI series or do the HD guys have it wrong and it doesn't matter if the bike is Carb or FI.

This is the link of the sound I want to achieve when I get my R* and if the above is true what the HD guys are saying, then maybe I will need to concentrate on pre-2008 R*

The sound is, in essence, the same. But, the FI bike idles higher, so you don't get the same "lope" that you get with a carb bike.

Something you have to consider is, 'How often are you idling?' and 'Is that amount of time worth the current ethanol problems of carbs?'

My bike is carbureted, and I have been wondering if there is a way to adapt the fuel injection system from a wrecked bike we just got in.

Mi2 I have two R*'s I wrecked my 05 and rebuilt it, I could have bought a FI model but went with the carbed 07 just for the reason it had the carb and a good price as well. There is truth to what the HD guys say but also some truth to what Lee says. I like the carbed bikes because I know the carbs very well and have invested a lot of time learning them. The FI models take all the fun out of it for me as well as THAT SOUND. I have run the 40 CV carb, 42 HSR carbs and am now running the 45 HSR carbs on mine. Yes you can play with the mapping and all that with the FI but it isn't the same. I spent 15 years as an IT person so I am NOT afraid of computer by any means. I just love the mechanics of the carbs. With my 45's I will put my R* up against ANY FI bike and most likly will come out on top. Go to the link at the left of my sig picture and scroll down on the first page to the star that says "See and Hear BlackIce" to hear both bikes. What ever you decide you will love the bike.

An injected engine has several sensors that make the injection system work. The carb engines do not have those sensors. You can convert an injected engine to carb without much trouble, but you can not convert from carb to injected. If you can replace the entire engine then it would work.

From what I've heard the manifold/head bolt pattern might be different. Other than that you would have to transfer the whole wiring harness, fuel tank, speedo, etc. Because of the built in delay even the headlight wiring is different isn't it.

Doable maybe but as a comparison it might be easier to rebuild the wrecked bike.

From What I have heard so fsr, there is a definite difference between a carb exhaust vs FI. My wife says the carb version sounds like a galloping horse. I do like the carb sound better, I like the low rumble that almost sounds like the bike is going to stall.
