Harley Wheels Question 2 Years, 3 Months ago
Hey all,

I was doing my research online when suddenly I realized, why not ask the best guys on the net!

ok, here is what I need. I need a 16" spoked front Harley D wheel set up for a 3/4" axel.

Here is the thing. After 2000, Harley switched to 1" for their front wheels. And, I can't seem to find a pre 2000 wheel for sale...

Having never done it before, would I be able to take a new HD front wheel and just switch out the bearings to match my 3/4" axel?

Knowledge appreciated!

Could always have a bushing made to reduce the 1" bearings to the Roadstar axle. Then you don't need to buy an axle and can use the newer wheels which are more plentiful, like you're finding out. But now I'm curious why you're swapping out a 16" wheel for a 16" wheel?

Or, instead of swapping out those bearings...would all I need to do is grab a reducer set?

For example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130479362773&viewitem=#vi-content

This seems like it would be an easy thing for me to figure out...But, I just want to be sure before dropping the $$.

Got my new springer for the front end and am just short a wheel and tire before my roadie is rolling again!

Those would work, and there cheaper and easier than new bearings. Forgot you were swapping to a springer, which explains why you're looking for a 16" Harley wheel. You staying with the Indian fender on the new front end?

The adapters will work as long as you actually have a 3/4" front axle. Roadstar has a 22mm front axle, which is slightly larger. I got the idea from Jamie to make reducers that go from 1" to 22mm for my front wheel, and found 4 wheeler bearings for the rear wheel that worked right out of the box.

Indeed I am keeping the Indian fender with the Springer

And, I am using a Harley axle so no worries there!

Oh, and yea, I'd switch to a 21" wheel if I wasn't going to run the indian fender. But, the fender is for a 16". I could possibly push it a little bigger...but, not quite sure how it would turn out...

I've got a set of the axles for the R* that are made to fit a HD wheel, I don't remember the size of them though. I could see if my girlfriend could dig them up, I got them on here for 50-75 bucks, I really can't remember. I was lookign at doing the HD wheels as well but I ended up powdercoating the stockers instead.
