What size apes??? 4 Years, 10 Months ago
What would be the tallest set of apes you could put on the R* with out having to modify the electrical wiring (i.e. splicing)?

What would be a good size to go with for a person of my height 5' 10"? The bike is mainly being used for short runs up to 100 miles. Thanks in advance.

If you are just trying to change your arm position without necessarilly going for the ape hanger look. You might consider just changing the risers. I've heard others on this forum put up to a 4" rise with no change to the wiring.

Me on the other hand, I wanted the Ape hanger look. I am 6'3" and have installed 16" apes, and the height of the bars does not exceed the height of my shoulders. With the 16" you will need to get 6"-8" overstock everything and if you wire internally you are in for some work.

I'm sure others will input their two cents and I'm sure there is someone here that has already done what you are planning to do.

Gunner, thanks for the quick response. I've always wanted to do a 60's era chopper with apes and I'm definitely going to run the electrical wiring internally. When I do searches about apes, I get results about tall guys, like yourself, 6' 2" - 6' 6" range.

I'm only 5' 10" and was wondering how high I need to go to just miss that numb spot that people post about when reaching the hand to shoulder level. I have an 04' Electra Glide for the long runs and I'm in the process of selling my 06' Screaming Eagle Fat Boy (too expensive to keep up and not a good bike to take to bike events...(read paint job and drunk people)). I bought this donor bike locally and I'm going to chop it, slam it to the ground, and do jockey shift and apes.

Paint it flat back and ride the f**k out of it!
