Gear Oil ? 4 Years, 10 Months ago
I changed oil this evening and also changed to 75-90 Mobil gear oil this time. I removed the pipes for easier access and cleaned them good at the same time.

I was really low on gear oil. Leaned the bike over as far as I could and nothing would come out. When I drained it there was a little but no where near what should have been. That really bothers me. .

When I got my bike I took it to the dealer and told him to treat is as a first service and it was even on the check list and check off as being ok. That was at a little over 4000 miles. I now have a few over 16000. Does the Road* use gear oil or was it probably low from the factory and the dealer didn't check it like he said? I haven't seen any leaks or anything and I am pretty anal about checking my bike.

I will be checking that regular now until I am sure I don't have any leaks...

I'll bet the stealer never checked it. Hope it is OK. As long as it wasn't making a lot of noise them maybe your safe. I checked mine wrong and added when I didn't need to and now I need to drain it. DAAAAAAAAAA!

I'd say it wasn't checked. I've never had any leaks or use in over 17000 miles.
If you filled it to where it oozed out the check hole you should be good to go.

in 22,000 I've never leaked or used any gear oil EXCEPT for some minor oozing out the filler hole due to the dealer not re-installing the rubber o-ring on the filler cap when they did the tranny recall.

I had forgotten about the Tranny recall. It was probably not filled to specs then.

I had not noticed any noise but did ride it around enough last night to check the oil level, which was between the marks with 4 quarts. Now I do hear a slight rattle sound when rolling on the throttle. It stops on decal. Checked the belt and alinenment it appears fine. I am sure there is some normal noise from the gears and I am probably over reacting now that I know it was low. Stuff like this really ticks me off and that isn't an easy thing to do.
