Exhuast for long legged passenger 4 Years, 10 Months ago

Hi all,
I just bought my first cruiser two weeks ago and absolutely enjoy riding it. Unfortunately, the passenger pegs are a little too high for my 6'2" wife. She was complaining about her knees being higher than her hip and causing the pain. So I have been looking for floorboards (to replace the pegs) and a lower exhaust. the reason for the lower exhaust is so that I can lower the floorboards as low and forward to make her comfortable. My question is: what exhausts give me the most clearance for me to lower and push forward the floorboards?
Thanks,

Post edited by: mecheng, at: 2007/07/19 12:35

Welcome to the forum mecheng.
WOW she is one tall drink of water.
I think if you went with duals like Coug or long and low shotguns like Musky
that might be your best bet.
Or you could get a one-of set custom built. I brought my bike into the shop and put on the passenger floor boards and the welder just worked around them.

Hey Gunner,
Thanks... and yes she is... She is the one that picked out the bike for me so I feel bad that it is not comfortable for her on the back.
I have the ability to lower and move forward the floorboards, so maybe I should talk to a local shop about making some pipes.
Again thanks....

My wife has the long leg syndrome ...
Not that I mind her knees up around my ears
Get an exhaust system with a forward swept rear pipe...then you can... not only lower and move forward the passenger floorboards ..her boots wont be sittin on yer pipes
A big reason for my choice of exhaust...

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/07/19 13:18

If you go the custom route heres a couple hints.
Save the headers, the welder can reuse the flanges.
What he did for me was save the flanges and the first 10-12 inches of the header pipe, and welded the new pipes overtop. By dooing this you will save yourself from getting the "blues", by having a double wall pipe, at least for the first 10-12". Also by keeping the stock header you will get better back pressure from it because the stockers are quite restrictive at the headers in comparison to a 2" straight pipe.
Once you decide on the proper foot position make sure they are on the bike during the mock up. That way there is no room for error on behalf of the welder.
Lastly you will want to keep the pipes high and tight to the bike to avoid dragging them. My pretty tips are a little to low and I have dragged the front one a few times.
Good luck.

There is also a J-shaped adaptor that fits into the stock peg mount that moves the pegs (or floorboards) outside of the exhaust and places them about level to the bottom of the pipes. No need to change pipes.
I'm sorry but I can't remember who makes them.

Firstly, welcome to the RSC. You'll get plenty of advice here, whether you want it or not!
Secondly, why not kill two birds with one stone. You can get plenty of clearance AND added performance with a 2-1 exhaust system.
Good luck!

Most importantly you want the exhaust to run UNDERNEATH the
passenger floorboards
Believe me...
Lots of boot room with my exhaust after the forward and down flip of the passenger floorboard mounts

All,
thanks for the great advice. I have been looking at the cobra hP pro 2in1 exhaust and the stock yamaha passenger floorboards. I have access to a machine shop (plus three of the guys in it ride) so they offered to help me make mods to the mounting posts and such.
Again Thanks everyone!!!!

Pop:
Seriously. All you had to do was flip your passenger mounts to move the boards down and forward? Not cutting, drilling or extra parts required?
Wow. That's great. I may try it for the wifey!
Thanks.
