As most know I painted my tank for my 05. When I got it there was no heat shield blanket on the underside like the OEM has. Now that is painted I had to put something on it. I went to Home Depot and bought some contact cement like you use to glue laminate counter tops on with and a roll of aluminum tape that you tape your water pipes with. Use a paint brush to apply the contact cement to the under side of the tank and let it dry. Cut the aluminum tale to lengths that suit you and pill the backing off of the sticky side and lay it on the tank and smooth it out. The tape is very shiny and reflective and goes on easy. You could even apply it on top of the OEM blanket for more protection. Less heat on your gas less pressure in the tank and lines maybe no more puking but I never had that problem anyway. Tank Blanket

I put some of that tape over the insulation blanket undr my tank but haven't had warm enough days to see how it will work. Wrapped my fuel line with it also. Good thought about the contact cement curt, didn't think about that. If it happens to start peeling off I'll do that.

Doesn't the "pressure" excape through the vent hose on top of the tank? I never hear the "hiss" of pressure when I open the gas tank???

Yes the pressure can exit by the vent but that is small and if the rollover valve doesn't work properly the heat can build up pressure. It may be that only the BLACK R* tanks have the blanket on them or the newer models. That may be Yami way of stopping carb puking.

Good idea. Mine doesn't have anything under there and I've noticed the fuel in the tank can get pretty warm on a hot day.

mine has that silver insulation too curt but my painter somehow pluged my vent (i think) so i did the gas cap vent thing. i would have had to anyhow when i go to a 42mm that should prevent a carb puke right? i mean i never had the problem before.
