What do you all use to cover any bare metal spots, like when you drill holes in fenders for chrome tips? I was told a while ago use nail polish in the hole. Any other rust preventative that's better to use?

Nail polish drys hard and brittle which means it will most likely crack off if you tighten anything around it. I use clear silicon caulk. You can put it on and spread it real thin with your finger. Let it dry. Seals great.

thebru is right bad idea on the polish! You can also go to your local parts store and buy some 3M strip caulk, or as us old body men would call it,dum, dum! you pinch a piece off put it in the hole push your bolt through and when you tighten it up it squeezes out and does a great job of sealing! Then you wipe off the excess, Used it for 30 years in the auto restoration business.

polyurethane it is much better than silicone which can and will brake loose over time however it does not dry clear so be careful
