How does the rain sock let air in? I don't understand how water in the carb caused starter and relay damage.

It is a nylon type material which tends to shed water off before it can penetrate. Water in the carb didn't cause the relay problem, the heavy rain shorted the relay some how! God can only answer that one as he put that stupid down pour in front of us. I'm just saying that due to the K&N allowing rain in killed my engine and left us stranded in a major storm. The relay may not have given out had power remain running through the system to help keep it dry.

Again this is only my experiances that has happened to me in the 68,000+ miles of riding my R*. If your R* doesn't get effected by the rain that's great, but IMHO if your going to be out on the road long distance I would recommend having the K&N rain cover as a small insurance policy to keep you running.

I ordered the RC-4160DK from K&N and it fits on mine fine. The only problem with it is its long so you just need to let the excess go behind the filter if that makes sense. The only problem I see is that with the chain on your setup it is designed to fit pretty snug. Hope that helps

I installed a K & N air filter in the stock air box and drilled 2 holes in the bake of the air box. No problems in the rain and kept the original look. Guess to each his own.
