You can do a search on here for related threads. The motor is low compression, so doesn't need the higher octane. you're just spending more for no gain. Others on here hopefully will jump in to explain better than I have. BTW...

Just want to thank all of you that helped out, it is my fuel pump, I'm going to get a new one for this riding season, then when the weather turns foul, I'm going pumpless with the maxair kit.

You don't need any kit to go pumpless. I have 2 R*s, both are pumpless. It's not necessary to buy any kit to remove and run with no pump.

Just read the info here and go for it. Probably about every mod I've made, I found right here on the RSC site, and I'm so glad to be a proud member!

Re:is it my fuel pump 1 Year, 1 Month ago
It was a sunny day here in southwest WA., so I decided to see if the bike would start, took the wires lose on the pump, and just for the heck of it put them back on to check, turned the key, and the pump started working, started up, and ran like a champ. rode 50 miles without a hiccup. I don't know what was up, but I'm glad to be back on two wheels.

You said you took the wires off the elec f-pump then put them back on and the bike started fine, rode for 50 miles and it ran great.

Looks to me you likely had a bad/dirty/corroded connection for 12v at fuel pump and when you removed & reinstalled the wires that will usually scrape enough corrossion off to regain a decent connetion.

I'd remove the wires again and clean the connector and fuel pump connection with a little pice of fine sand paper etc so it doesnt happen again when your on the road someday.

Then reconnect ther 12v source connector to ele f-pump with some dialectric type grease thats designed to keep water/moisture/corrosion out of elecgtrical connectors so it doesnt happen again.

I'll do that this morning, I'd hate to have this happen again, I love my r*, but I hate pushing it.scottw wrote:
