Swung by the dealer today and talked to a "technician". Told him the engine sounded like a boxcar full of loose nails. Asked about valves not seating properly, rich carb setting, etc. His pat answer? "I dunno". He was quick to point out that ring free was the answer to my problem. Someone's overpaid and it ain't me.

Hi Doc - sorry to take so long to reply - actually am running 36A - 87 octane and absolutely no preignition! As for the billet end cap - installed today - how do you block off the old holes so the fiberglass will not blow out? Also the baffle does not stay seated in the pipe. If the bolts are at 6 and 9, my baffle pushes out slightly at 1:30. I admit that my pipe is not virgin - it has met asphalt on many occasions. And for the screen - the only window screen material that we have locally is either vinyl or aluminum. I repacked the baffle and put in some of the aluminum screen material and aluminum dryer duct tape on the inside over the original holes. Will ride to therapy tomorrow and see how that worked. Any and all suggestions appreciated. The comp baffle with packing has a deeper note but my wife says it is quieter than my blown out stock baffle!
Dave
I was going to fill the holes with pop rivets from the inside but the holes are too large, also might be a problem with clearance on the baffle rings.
