Just my .02. I do just about anything myself. If I buy from a dealer, they're very likely to never see me again. An extended warranty is typically a dealer profit add-on. If I didn't do just about anything by myself, I'd go for it. But, with the tools and know-how I've got... ain't no way. It truly depends on your level of knowledge and hands-on mechanical skills.

I got it on mine bought April 07 after having bike for a year great peace of mind never used it but I would do it again

Well, I was about 45 minutes from my house. The bike was smoking and loud popping noise was coming from it. I couldn't get it to go past 30 MPH. It shut off on me several times on the pitch dark highway. I can't tell you how scared I was. I finally got home (about 2.5 hours later).

I did take it to the dealer and the guys had a good time laughing at me. They changed a few fuses; drained the gas. Said it was all gooey. But it ran right afterwards. Guess I had one to many.
