Ok, so... Why go pumpless? What advantages does it give ya? I always thought a fuel pump was a good thing.

GK, here is how it was explained to me, a fuel pump will sooner or later fail on you, or not, so, why take the chance of being on the road and getting stuck, when, you can go pumpless and let gravity do it's job, hope this makes sense to you....or, carry the proper fixen's with you and keep your pump.

I might be wrong, but I think if you go pumpless you won't be getting all of the fuel out of the tank when needed, for instance, your tank is a 5.3 gal, with the pump it might suck it all out, with out the pump you might only get 4.5 gal, I'm not totally sure on this and my figures are only for example, I just moved my fuel pump and filter from the side of the motor to a different location.

workharddieproud, you have a valid point, however, the question is, would you rather have to pull in for fuel with .08 gallon's of unused fuel in your tank, or, be stuck on the side of the road with 5.3 gallons in your tank? keep your fuel pump, no harm in that, just carry a spare fuel line and a clamp or two along with ya, just in case

I've run mine down to empty with the light on before refueling. You're right though. The pump will grab fuel as it sloshes past the petcock opening and immediately pressurize it for the carburetor. Gravity feed on the other hand can't react that fast and the fuel line might end up with a bubble in it.

The other disavantage, at least with mine, is that the engine will suck the bowl dry at about 95 in 4th even with the 3mm Grizzly valve. The wind resistance from the windshield, lowers and bags has a lot to do with it. I can raise the float level to eliminate the problem and also keep from uncovering the pilot jet at certain throttle settings.

My bike will be 12 years old in May and I was starting to worry about where I would be when the fuel pump finally quit. With my luck, being at home didn't seem possible.

I still have my pump. But, I do carry a piece of hose, clamp and splicer in saddlebags. Don't know why? I guess you guys have me spooked? I have rode bikes with fuel pumps for 30 years, and have never had one fail!! Butch

Is there instructions on how to go pumpless, for those of us who know little about this kind of stuff. Will removing the fuel pump take care of the "carb puking"? I would love to remove mine if y'all could help...
