so your saying the filter is there to keep the junk off your bike but if you run a line down under the bike to the ground you don't need one right

Re:Crank Vent Help 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I had some extra tubing. Ran it down the spine then under to the front part of the battery box. Down, parallel with the rollover line then a quick left before it came out the bottom and attached a mesh screen filter that I attached to the rear horn mount (which I removed for the Stebel horn I mounted up front).

It was actually easier to begin the process in reverse order... at the horn mount.

If you dont want to fool with all that you could pull the little filter off and wash it out with soap and water and reinstall it. It is washable.

I just clean mine with dishwashing liquid. Get's all the oil out and leaves it nice and clean. Or you can use the same kit that you use for the K&N filter.

It's always going to let some oil vapor out and dirty your bike. I did both of mine in the erbman fashion... up under the tank with a simple $3 breather filter zip-tied to the ignition switch mount. The more stuff I can hide, the better I can show off my jugs!

And, so far... NO oil vapor has gotten up to either of the filters I've installed to oil and soil anything!

Re:Crank Vent Help 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I purchased some fuel line that fit (about 4' feet of it) and then attached it to the crankcase and ran it back toward the bottom of the tank and then worked it straight down where it points right at the road. If you look up and under the bike right in front of the rear tire you'll see a small metal ring, I squeezed it in there. Then I just trimmed off the rest of the hose that I didn't need.

I pulled it back off for something not too long ago and found that it was easier (as mentioned before in this thread) to run it backwards from the ground up to the cylinder head.

+1 on the hose dumped out under the rear of the bike, had a fancy breather filter and it would blow oil residue on the engine once in a while, got tired of cleaning and just purchased a few feet of fuel line.

Thanks all. I think I'll just eliminate the filter I have now to clean up the right side. I'm going to see how much hose is running to it and decide if I will go under the bike or use the Erbman method.

Thanks again.
