Hey Scott

Won't try and tell you which is best. Opinions all over the place on that one. But here's a list of filters that work. I will say - Avoid the Fram.

Welcome to the Clinic Moe!
I don't know if they are the "best", but I've always stayed with Fram filters. Usually available at Wal-Mart and a few $$ cheaper than OEM.

I may be stirring up a hornet's nest here, but it seems I remember reading in a motorcycle mag a few years ago that there are (or were) only a couple of different manufacturers that made oil filters, and they sold to the different companies and they in turn put their own names on them.

Anyway, I imagine most filters do a good job as long as they are changed on a regular basis. I'm sure others will join in with their preferences.

Good luck and ride safe!!

Musky,
Why avoid Fram filters? Thats all I ever used on my Vulcan and it's got 72,000 miles on it and still going strong. Road Star has almost 19,000 miles with no problems. Just wondering........

Hey 05

I will start by saying I have never taken a Fram apart. But others have and if you google you will see for yourself. Fram uses cardboard endcaps that are glued on to the end of the filter material. So if the glue come loose or the cardboard fails because it is soaked in oil you can have unfiltered oil flowing back into the motor. Can I tell you I know of a motor failure caused by Fram? Nope. Can I say the filter will fail? Nope. But I do think there are many better filters out there that don't cost much more. This is just my opinion. If you like the Fram and it's working for you then you're good to go.

Aaron, Fram has an ugly reputation on the racetrack circuit, in fact , the are (or at least were, last time I checked) banned on racetracks. The reason? They were blowing off high revving motors.Literally. I know we don't rev nearly high enough to cause that, but my thinking is, if they can't build a quality product that won't blow off an engine, why take the chance? On my Cars, no problemo, on my Scoot, forget it. Just alittle info on my dislike for their M/C filters.BB
