Internal wiring for Apes 1 Year, 1 Month ago
Greeting wise ones, I have a question for you all, I am trying to run my wires through the ape bars that I purchased. The bars are 1 1/4. Also, something off topic, I put the bars on and tried turning on my R* and it did not want to start. The battery is good, everything turns on, (i.e. lights, and stuff). This happened after I put my new bars, is it possible I might have pulled a wire? It ran perfectly fine prior to that. I rode for about 30 miles.

Yep, kill switch or maybe clutch safety switch.

Most likely the kill switch, though...

Not it is not the kill switch.

Let explain what happened. I put my new bars, without doing the internal wiring. after I finished installing everything back, It did not want to turn on. Any idea? Also I exchanged the clutch assembly with a new one.

Does it crank at all? Click? Or does nothing happen when you push the starter button?

Nothing happened. Today I pulled the clutch and it turned on. But as soon as I released the clutch it would turn off. Weirdest thing.

Sounds like the bike thinks it's in gear or the kick stand is up...

Something is grounded out. I bet you pinched a wire in the bars at one end or the other when puting it all back together. When I did mine, I put on Harley controls, so I had to ground out all the safety switches to make it work. It's opposite for Yamaha, something grounded out will make it NOT work.

Are the clutch safety wires reversed? Also, how did you finish the extensions? solder/shrink wrap/tape?
