V&H Powershots or Longshots?? 4 Years, 12 Months ago
Besides price, what is the difference between these two pipes?

They make both for the 07 Road* and I have settled on V&H...just not sure which pipe.

Performance? Sound? Etc Etc

No 1 - which look do you like better.

No 2 - which sound better to you.

The Powershots have a crossover so I expect them to have a better torque profile than the Longshots.

The Longshots are loud (but 'loud' is relative). I have never heard the Powershots but I expect them to be quieter than the Longshots based on the described construction.

The heat shield on the Powershots goes all the way around the pipe.

At the same crossroads myself, like the look of the longshots...
but trying to hear a set of powershots on a bike, I ride a lot, and hope not to drown myself in noise, as I already cannot hear the wife when she talks to me.
She doesn't ride....

Hope some more on the forum, for input on what the powershot sounds like...
volume wise compared to the longshots with baffles

I installed a set of powershots a couple of months ago in addition to a BAK, ported manifold, and rejet. They are not "quiet" but are quieter than the longshots. At cruising speed 70-80 mph it is comfortable sound level, I almost can't hear them. But when you crack the throttle open they make themselves noticed. In this mode they sound like a stock car on steroids. As for power increase, the low end does have a noticeable increase. But as you hit midrange and the upper end of the revs. that's when you start sliding back in your seat and your grip on the handle bars gets noticablly tighter. In layman terms " It pulls like brahma bull on crack". Love the sound, love the power, money well spent. Harley who? Ride safe.

Post edited by: slorydr, at: 2007/05/30 19:46

I got the powershots and I am really happy with them the are a real kick in the pants performance wise and they sound great, loud when you get on it but nice when cruising. I have a friend who got the long shots and they sound really good but they are too loud after a while of crusin. I bought the powershots also for the kick up so I can lay it over in the canyons and not scrape. Floor boards ok pipes not

Been tagging along on this one, ordered the powershots last night, thanks for all the input Doc.
Slorydr and Smhowse your input much needed, confirmed that I should be happy with my choice.. I like the way the pipes sit in your pic Smhowse, I have the same Silverado bags on mine...

Thanks
Paul

Re:V&H Powershots or Longshots?? 4 Years, 9 Months ago
I narrowed it down to Longshots and Powershots and I just installed a set of Powershots and I'm glad I picked the "quieter" of the two.

They are much louder than I expected them to be. The sound fine at idle and sound as loud as I expected them to be at WOT but I don't know how much I (or my ears) am going to like the sound they make at cruising speed.

I've got the quietest helmet on the market and I still get a headache and my right ear rings if I don't ear earplugs, and I don't like wearing earplugs.

Every person on the street turns to see what's making all the racket when I drive by and I've been pulling in the clutch and idling by the cops.

I don't want to take them off but I'm seriously looking into what I can do to take the edge off them a bit. I looked at the Quiet Baffles but they're only available in 2 inch and the Powershots are 2.5 inches.

I thought about trying them anyway and wrapping more fiberglass around them until they're snug in the pipe but I'm concerned it would just get blown out.

I also looked at putting some homemade Thunder Monsters in front of the Powershot baffle.

Any ideas on how to make them just a bit quieter?

I installed the V&H Powershots on my bike (07 R*, stock everything) about a week ago. I have had no noticable differences in power loss, but some increase. They were loud at first, and are the loudest at initial start up, but tend to quiet down after warm up. While out cruising, they have a nice rumble at cruising speed (55-70) and unless you crack on the throttle, they sound great. Wife has no complaints, only if I rev it in the garage. Not sure what you would want to do to it, I think you will find the sound gets better with time.

Re:V&H Powershots or Longshots?? 4 Years, 9 Months ago
I've had V&H pipes on my last 4 bikes. My Roadie has Longshots. I've tried various baffle configurations and no matter what, none of my buddies want to ride beside or behind me. Way too loud. I've heard that V&H makes a so-called quiet baffle for these pipes, but I haven't tried that yet. When contacted, V&H is silent on the issue. By changing around the baffles (length, packing, etc.) I can definitely change the torque and power, but I can't seem to change the sound level.

that's my 1.999 cents worth.
