New oil by Mobile 1 6 Years, 6 Months ago
Not sure if this is new or not but i was out at walmart looking for Royal Purple to do an oil change and could not find any ( I am assuming it is exclusive at Napa?) but what I did find was Walmart now has a small Motorcycle section separate from automotive, at least at this superstore I went to. Anyway they had the motorcycle oils in this section and the oil they carried was Mobile1 20w50 full synthetic Vtwin 4 cycle oil. Not sure if this is the same as the red cap stuff everyone talks about, but this oil is in a black cap and sold by the qt. Anyone tried this and what are your thoughts?

I got a super tech filter like listed on the front page of this site, but could not find any royal purple so I'm gonna try this mobil 1 and see how it does.

Post edited by: Snacky, at: 2005/11/13 18:38

What you probably heard was the Red cap is now Gold cap. New cap, same oil

These are the automotive oils but some, including myslelf, use it in the bike.

OK Doc thanks. I think this must be a NEW oil from Mobile 1 then because it says specifically on the front V TWIN Full Synthetic 20w50 4 cycle motorcycle oil for high performance engines.
It is a black bottle with a black cap. I saw the gold cap full synthetic in the automotive section as well so I'm thinking this is something totally new or at least new to me.
Might be worth checking out.

I switched to it at my first service back in July. I also switched the transfer case to Mobil 1 as well. The bike now has 5800 miles and had its second oil change at 4400 miles. It runs great and the engine is quiet even when it is hot.

I have seen the Mobil 1 V-Twin oil at AutoZone also it was $5+ a quart, not too bad.I have also gone through the filter books and found out the Super Tech filter everyone talks about is for a V6 Mazda so I kept looking and found a Mobil 1 filter that should work also, has anyone used that one? M1 filters generally test in the top 3 in every test I have seen input?

Re:New oil by Mobile 1 5 Years ago
I went to Wal-Mart yesterday too se if I could get some Amsoil there. They don't stock it anymore. I spotted the Mobil 1 jugs and looked for the 15w50 oil, they don't stockit anymore?
Anyways the lady at the store called the Mobil Toll Free number. I talked to the Mobil Tech guy: He says that the Mobil1 15W50 has been discontinued and replaced by the new Mobil 1 "5 W 50" grade. (5w50! ) They claim this is the greatest oil yet, as it is made for extreme heat and extreme cold starts.
They Tech guy told me I should not use the 15w50 OR 5w50 oil in a wet clutch bike as it still has friction modifiers even though it does not say ENERGY CONSERVING on the label. He rcommended using Mobil 1 V-Twin that is JASO-MA approved. (There you go POP 'JASO-MA' RIVET!!!
Well anyways I then went to Canadian Tire, I found Amsoil 0w40 at 13.99 per Liter.
They had Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W50 on sale for 12.99 per Liter, and the K&N oli filter for 24.99 ... 24.99 for an OIL FILTER!?
Anyways I bought 4 Liters of Mobil 1 V-Twin 20w50 to try in my Roadie. I hope the "w50 weight" is not tooo heavy, as the Yamaha calls for a "w40 wieght" oil.
Well, enough babbling. Let's try this new oil and see what happens! ...?
I'll keep you posted on my results.

I am running VTwin Mobile 1 oil and I am pleased with the results so far but that is only 2 k so far .. I may switch to Castrol down the road simply because I have used it in all my trucks, cars, and bikes for the last 38 years and never had one single motor problem ...... Coug

I hear ya Coug! I haven't used anything but Castrol 20W50 in any of my bikes for the past 22 years and have never had a single oil-related engine problem. The Vulcan's got 72,000 miles on it and still going strong so I figured I'd keep running it in the Road*. I've thought about switching to a synthetic but with the track record I've had with Castrol, I figured I'd stick with it.

Just my 2 cents worth though.

In The Wind,
Aaron
