First Post! Decision Between 03 or 04 2 Years ago
New member and first post here, I don't even own a rodie....YET! That's what has brought me here. I have already spent time lurking around through the forums and gleaned a lot of great information.
My quandary is this; I have found not one, but two great Road Star Midnights. One is a 2003, the other an '04. First the '03, this one has 11K miles, most highway, very clean and set up nicely with light bar and LED tail lights. The other (2004) has 20K miles, nicely outfitted with chrome add-ons. I like the aluminum wheels compared to polishing spokes, but that's a minor thing. Both are great looking bikes!
Here's my question to the forum: I know there were some changes made to the engine from 2003-04. What year model would you choose taking the engine and miles on each into consideration? There is only $100 difference between the two. I feel a sense of urgency to act as I don't see these two lasting for long on the market.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Looking forward to joining WITH the new R*

Both are good bikes. But other than the obvious 1600-1700. The tires will be tubless(a plus) instead of tube type. The higher miles is not a factor. There are some other minor differences others will tell you. Check to see if the trans recall was done on the 1600. It all come down to which one you like the best

welcome to the clinic from NC

i would check this first, if the 03 had the recall and no other inner engine mods i would go with the 04. if it did not and there are no inner engine mods to the 04 I would consider going with he 03 when they do the recall work you can add some high performance parts no added labor cost just the price of the parts. one other thing to keep in mind the 04 has better front brakes.

Woodchipper, First

2003 -make sure its had its transmission recall done on it. otherwise the only con is engine wise its smaller then the 1700 and you need to use tubes for the 03.

2004- I think has SVS issues but oherwise both bikes with their current mileage is just beginning!!!

You'll enjoy the Roadie as much as everyone else on this site. Be prepared to get modificatsia- a desease you get on this forum that will empty your wallet or credit card...

I have an '04. As above -- check into the tranny recall and see if it was done on the '03 before you consider that. Have fun and let us know what you decide!

And we welcome Chromosexuals with open arms too.

from Texas. I would go for the 04 (1700 cc), if you dont know the roadstar went to fuel injection in 2008.

I have an '02 1600. Don't think the 1600 is low on power, mine is a major torque monster!
