whats the deal with the slime from air filter? 2 Years ago
so i have a barons big air kit put on my 05r* 1700, along with jetting and v&h big shots with included baffles (not quiet baffles). i also get an oil change and go with 4.0 quarts of synth oil.

when i ride now i get what i can only assume is oil coming out of the rear of the big air kit (rear meaning the area that is rearmost towards the back of the bike). it gets all over the exhaust pipe just below where the pipe connects to the rear cylinder. and spatters on other items in the general area. it seems to get gunked up at higher speeds (55 to 70). is this common? what the heck? if i go back to the oem airbox and new oem filter will i be ok? i hate that this is happening and it seems like a better design could have been made if this is the crank case vent doing this.

One of 2 things or 2 things, if you over oiled the filter element, it's the excess blowing off at speed. If you connected the crankcase vent hose to the back of the BAK, take it off, plug the hole in the bak, and run the crancase hose to a small filter, a hose to below bike or my mod

thanks. i like the pics of the mod. but where does the filter empty to? does it just terminate at the filter? if it does do you periodically clean it or just leave it be? any info is appreciated.

i should clarify that i had this done last fall. and i was told that there was probably just a smidge too much oil and the condition should go away on its own. but it never does. the bike runs good, it just gets slimy.

I just change it every 10k miles, bout twice a yr, whether it needs it or not. for the 5 bucks or so, what the heck. also replace the entire hose about every 2 yrs, just to keep all the plumbing clean. No garage, so it's easier to just dump the entire hose and replace.

Same thing with my K&N filter and box...I just wipe it off every so often, clean the pipe and get on down the road

Re:whats the deal with the slime from air filter? 2 Years ago
so 2 questions now. 1) is there a hose coming from the top of both cylinders? and 2) is there any reason i cant just route these hose/hoses straight to the bottom of the bike and out the bottom of the frame at a slight angle to avoid having the discharge going directly under the rear tire? and in everyones opinion, could the discharge actually gunk up the rear tire making it less safe? im guessing the amount is throws shouldnt affect the tire, but i am not even qualified to be a shade tree mech..

okokok, one more question, does there need to be a filter on the end of this hose, or can i vent it straight into the pavement?

Had the same problem when I installed my K&N kit. I just routed my breather tube so that the blow by would be sucked into the throat of the fuel injection. No more oil and no problems.
