Well the wife and I made the decision last night to sell it. I'm done with it. I have done everything I know to do and maybe it's to the point where with the HC pistons and other performance upgrades on it the bike will never run smooth again. Someone will want the bike as it is, a hot rod, but I am looking for comfort not stop light to stop light performance. It's a shame really since there is a lot of work gone into this bike and I know I have spent at least $1,000 just chasing this vibration issue. At this point I am interested in riding on the weekends not working on the damn thing.
Wildrat, that was me that went to the small shop and while they did fix two or three issues that made it worse, once the bike warms up it vibes and buzzes enough to make me uncomfortable.
I'm sure the stock RoadStar is probably a nice ride, but when I bought this thing used I had no idea what I was getting and from now on any bike I get is going to be stock so I know whats going in it and on it.
I'm not sure what the new ride will be, but i won't rule out another R* it will just have to be stock or close to it. A friend wants to sell me his VTX1300 (Honda). Went and test rode it the other night and it was a world of difference. No vibes, hands didn't go numb, feet didnt hurt, but wasnt numb, no harmonic vibes up through the RPM range, just smoooooth.
Oh well, anyone want a 200 R* ? lol

A stock R* would be fine probably, I would stay away from Barneys that sucks. Maybe that Cycle Springs or some place smaller that isn't more interested in money than making the customer happy. My bike now is fine. I have bub stubbies, because I wanted some more noise, I put a twin velocity cleaner on it because it kinda looks like the V-twin, It does stick out a bit from the bike, but I cured that by putting the floor board out about 3 inches. I did rejet the carb slightly because of the cleaner and pipes. I took the AIS off and relocated the fuel pump. So I have not done a lot to the engine. It still goes and I can cruise all day long. If you get a R* again just letme know, and if you want to do anything to the bike as far as customising for your taste I will be glad to help. I also have Linbar road bars on it, Chrome lower chain cover, air horn sinstalled where the fuel pump was, and of course my Corbin seat.

P.S. I forgot to say me and the wife get lots of good commeents on our bikes. At biketoberfest I would here people look & talk about the bikes at red lights thinking they were Harley's then at thenext light when they finally realize they were Yamaha's they would say with a certain tone of discovery in their voice those are R*'s.

Post edited by: wildrat, at: 2005/11/24 10:27

Hello Wildrat, sorry to hear that we couldn't help you with the vibration problem. Over turkey and stuffing I was thinking, vibration is caused by either reciprocating forces such as the pistons and rods moving up and down or by rotating mass that is out of balance or out of concentric. You mentioned that the bike had been modified by a previous owner. I would question whether the clutch had been worked on. An improperly installed clutch could be the cause of vibration. The clutch is spinning while both in gear and out of gear.

Ekonkjack,
Snacky is the fella that has the bike previously modified by another owner. Iam the guy who has a R* that I purchased from a Sucky Yamaha dealer in Tampa Bay along with another identical R*. The dealer would not take the time to ck out the bike. Even though Sucky Barney's told me to leave it there a week and they would fix it. Ck this out dropped it off on a Monday, did not call Sucky Barneys to bug them like most customers would. I went to them on a Friday about lunch time, to let them know to just take their time looking at it because it was still like a 1 1/2 weeks till biketoberfest. They call back to the shop and they said they hadn't got to it yet but it was next. I go home and a couple of hours later they are calling me telling me the bike was done, and they found an over tightened belt, and the goose neck bearings were loose and wanted to charge me around 168 for that. I told the girl the bike was still under warranty, she says did you buy it here? I also told them SUCKHEADS they were also the idiots that that did the scheduled maint. not long before where they charged me hundred and something bucks. Obviously they did not do anything to the bike then, nor did they do anything the last time. If they had done their job the first time they would have seen there was not enough oil in the transfer case and that it wasn't gear oil. Suck Head barneys did not even ck the bike out before delivery. Suck Head barneys are thiefs that steal peoples money. Suck Head barneys won't be selling anymore bikes to me. I also noticed that you said that you were sorry that you could not fix the bike. So either you work at a Yamaha dealer and are taking responsibility and being kind and saying nice words since Suck Head barneys won't, or you work for barneys, in which case if you work for Suck Head barneys of tampa bay that would make you a suck head too. If you do not work for barneys, Thank You for your concern, if you do work for barneys the dealership that steals from it's customers go barney yourself!

Sorry about my confusion Wildrat, I did mean that reply for Snacky.
I can tell that you are dissapointed in Barney', someplace down in Florida, I will pass along the word to my father who lives in Florida so that he doesn't patronize them. No, I don't work for Yamaha or any dealers associated with them or any other motorcycle company. I have been riding since the early seventies and have always done my own work. From regular maintenance to engine rebuilds. Partly because I'm cheap (ask my wife) and because I don't trust most anybody else to do it.

Thanks,
Yep, I'll be doing most of my own work from now on, don't know why I would pay those clowns all that money to change oil anyway. It doesn't take very long to do, and it isn't hard at all, once you have all the right tools. Like a cat pan with two sides cut down halfway so you can slip it under the bike and get your big hand in there as well. A big thick washer to get the transfer case plug off, and maybe a short wrench to get the front oildrain plug off, although I have had no trouble removing it with a regular open end wrench.
Wildrat
P.S. The Linbar engine guard bar because of the way it mounts at the top amplifies vibration a lot. I am going to make a plate for the top that will have more mounting area so the bar does not vibrate as much.

I believe this was not needed in resonse to ebonjack. It's often difficult to get one's point across in written form and it's even easier to mis-interpret someone's response. In my case, I believe that his response "sorry to hear that we couldn't help you with the vibration problem" infers to his inability to help you out on this Forum.
I understand you are upset at Barney's but try and restrain yourself in dealing with others.
Now let's shake hands and get on with helping each other out.

I agree with Doc WR.
I read ekonkjacks post completely different than you did. I think he was apologizing for all of us here at the clinic not being able to offer more useful assistance.

Ya'll spent a lot of time deciding what ekonkjacks post said.I guess you failed to read the disclaimer in my last sentence of my post, and also failed to read the post after that one thanking ekonkjack. Which was posted before Docs but ended up after his post. So if ya'll want to have a Wildrat bashing go ahead. My mama told me when I was little that sticks and stones will break my bones but woooorrrrrdddddssss will never hurt you. Ifyou ask methe post could beinterpreted either way. I guess I was kindahoping someof those suck heads from barneys would show up here. I guess they don't know about this forum.I guess it does need more advertising, besides the few of us that spread the word by word of mouth. If the post I put on here were not apology enough to ekonkjack Iapologise. I don't think one was required but there it is. I guess I'll have to start using body lotion so I can be a sensitive fella. I guess thats going to upset someone now, I apologise for that too. Maybe I better quit while I'm ahead.
