I see what everybody means about Harleys being smaller than R*.... A guy down the street and I ride to work togeather every day. His brother got a 1 mil insurance settlent and bought a Fat Boy. I let him ride my R* and the first thing he said nwhen he got on it "DAMN this is a BIG bike". Then when come back he said I love this bike it sure wants to pull. I told I wish he had ridden it before he bought the FB. He said well I've always wanted a Harley. His FB was a nice bike but no where near the bike my R* is. I went home loving my R* even more.

Some folks need to get it out of their blood ... ..... scratch the itch.

I'd only buy an HD 'cause there are so many more possibilities for customizing than the R*. Gets tiring 'jury-rigging' HD parts on my bike.

Doc, that is the only reason I would consider a HD. I really like the set up on a street glide. You can get a touring trunk that can be removed without tools.

But the main reason I don't buy a HD, I can't afford the T shirts...

Guys:

About 6-7 years ago I bought a 1500 Wing on Ebay from a guy in Phoenix and drove it home to North Dakota...loved the ride and loved the bike. Then we started having kids and I got the itch to "upgrade"...and I had always wanted a HD Ultra Classic. As luck would have it, my neighbor wrecked his knee last summer and asked if I would drive his Ultra (only 1200 miles on it!) for a week to burn the old gas out of it. I was sorta disappointed after driving it for a week ...exhaust cooks your right thigh, can't find neutral, shifts hard, not near the power as my 1500 Wing; they do handle nice though. Then I went back home and drove my brother-in-law's 2004 Star...and after 5 minutes I knew I had to have one. Anyway, I found a new Midnight hold-over 2005 and have never had more fun! I just drove that same guy's Ultra AGAIN 2 weeks ago (same deal, burning out the old gas - go figure) and it just reaffirmed that I made the right decision. Moral of the story: test drive a bike before you buy! Harley makes nice bikes, but I like mine better

I love my R* for what it is not...

It is not a Harley....

My bike before the R* was an Electraglide Classic...

Yer right...my balls cooked from the heat.... mostly comin from the exhaust crossing over under the front of the seat...to feed the rear left exhaust...

The R* was a refreshing change from the old bagger ............
bigger , better and badder....

and ...NO.... I dont wish I had a fairing like the one on a Harley.....

PS my cousin drove his brand new 2007 Custom Softail up from Youngstown OHIO...a few weeks ago...

A little anemic next to the R*....but I did like the antitheft system...

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/08/24 02:00

Harleys seem to hold their value pretty well, but I truly believe the Roadstar is a superior bike, especially given the price difference between a new one and a comparibly equipped Road King or Heritage Soft Tail.

However, my wife would really like an Ultra Electraglide Classic because of the radio and the detachable touring pack that makes a Bercalounger-like back seat for her!!!!

I pray for her daily!!

Yes, the Fat Boy is a nice ride but it's no RoadStar. A friend and I switched bikes for a while on a trip to the White Mountains and I was impressed with the, ahhum, Honda like smoothness and the handling. It definately feels smaller and slightly less powerful but for those that have never owned a Harley and just gotta have one, more power to em. I scratched that itch a long time ago, thrice . The only new Harleys that I would trade my used RoadStar in for even swap, cost about twenty thousand but the Roadie could be outfitted to match for only a couple thou and still be the bigger bike. I won't knock them cause having owned a few is why I like riding big thundering vtwins to start with it's just that they haven't been the only game in that town for eight years now .
