I think I have about 6 helmets in my closet. It;s hard to fine the perfect set-up. I recently bought the HJC half because it had the best venting system.

i have the daytona half helmat and i have never used it. it cracked in my saddle bag after it hit the quick release bracket that is inside my bag i do not use helmats so i do not care i keep it for going into ca. it looks dorky the way it sticks out like a wwI artilary helmat. if i were to wear a helmat to feel safe this is NOT the helmat.

I have an HJC half....plenty big enuf, is it true that d.o.t.s set higher? I like the helmet but it seems to set high on my head. Maybe too much brains.

In my experience half/shorty helmets are garbage unless you have a full windshield. And yes, they will sit atop your head giving the mushroom effect. Anything over in town speeds will choke you and yank your head around with no windshield, in my opinion your safer without in that scenario. I actually turned it around backwards when I was stuck wearing one in Nebraska, helped a bit.

Anyone have experience with a 3/4 helmet with no windshield? I'm curious if it has the same affect

My wife has the carbon fiber version. http://www.daytonahelmets.com/home/day/smartlist_66/carbon_fiber_skull_caps.html She has herniated disk in her neck so the weight of most helmets is unbearable. The carbon fiber is light and it looks good. I will probably get one for myself this year. She finds it to be very comfortable. It is well made, but no frills helmet.

I am pretty sure I do too. I don't have a half helmet tho...I have been thinking of getting one...but when I do I have to have the flip down visor kinda like this one besides the designs on the back.

Re:Helmets ?? 1 Year ago
I generally ride with a novelty skull cap, but I also have a 3/4 open face helmet, and no windshield, the 3/4 is fine with no windshield, and keeps my ears nice, and warm in the low temps, my main reason for the 3/4 is, I like to ride in the winter, I'm super claustrophobic, and full face's drive me crazy

I've had the carbon fiber skullcap for about a year now and love it. I have another half that I wear in the winter because it has a zip in ear muff.
