High Speed Vibration 12 Months ago
Got a 01 Roadstar. It seems when I get above 70 MPH there is a vibration. Not a rough one but a continous one that wears me out on longer rides. I have only had the bike for a month so Im not sure if this normal at higher speeds.

It's a big V-Twin, so keep in mind they can get a bit buzzy at higher rpms.

I assume it's engine vibration you are referring to. If not could this be something that 2 oz per tire of dynabeads might cure?

BTW....nice lookin' bike.

What year is your bike? You could always consider going to a 33 tooth pulley. That would make your motor turn less RPM at 70+mph. I have been considering doing that because I am not into the racing and speed thing anymore. It would probably help your mileage also a little.

The 33 tooth is a 1.5" pulley so you would also have to change to 1.5 belt.

I had a 02 and now I have 05 and I liked the 70+ on the 02 better. It was a more relaxed ride.

Just a thought.

If you just got the bike don't become upset or discouraged yet there are plenty more unpleasant things about a Roadstar to discover and spend money trying to correct .

I love mine I know that .

+1 on the 33 tooth front pulley. But there is no need to change belts when you put a 33 on a 1700. the 33 is wider than the standard belt on a 1700 and works fine.

I don't know what I was thinking about the belt. Got my pulleys crossed up. LOL Some reason the rear popped into my head.

..

Realistic approach to the vibration ...

You may want to check tire balance and fork oil level along with the fork seals.

Is this your first bike with a windshield? That will cause buffeting at higher speeds that could feel like vibration.

Make sure the Tree Bearings are in good shape.

Left the bike so the front tire is up... pull up and down on the wheel at the axle, if it "clunk" or moves up and down... bearing maintenance time. Either a pull and re-pack or a replacement and then proper tightening.

Something else is tires that are slightly cupped can and do produce vibrations at speed.

Also, the motor is know to be buzzy at certain speeds... all are different as to what speed. Just go a bit faster or slower as your preference... and remember its just the motor vibrating.

Re:High Speed Vibration 11 Months, 4 Weeks ago
All engines have resonate frequencies and my Road Star gets a buzz at about 77 mph indicated (73 actual) and it is gone at 80 mph indicated (76 actual. At 80 it is almost as smooth as a Goldwing, just kidding.
Check your motor mounts if the bolts are not torqued you can get a nasty buzz in the floor boards.
Tire balance is another major factor and then tuning. When were the plugs changed last??
Usually the resonate bands are fairly narrow so try a little faster or a little slower and see what happens. If you must ride at the speed it occurs a reduction change will help, ie. pulley change.
Good luck.
