Witness of a horrific bike crash 11 Months, 3 Weeks ago
My son went to the Dragons Tail for a week of riding. On the way back home, he said a cruiser passed him going somewhere around 60-65 which was way over the speed limit. A truck came from the left and pulled in front of the guy on the cruiser almost getting him, but the guy made it around him. My son said the guy turned around and looked for a long time at the truck. Then a car from the right side did the exact same thing, pulled in front of him. The guy did the same thing, he turned to look back at the car. When he did so, he ran right into the back of a fifth wheel camper and my son said he just turned around but did not have time to even hit the brakes. The guy hit the back of the camper, went over the fifth wheel around 14 ft high flipping and down the road, landing face first. The guy was in real bad shape according to my son. My son runs a video camera on his busa and caught it all on video.

Two mistakes the guy made I told my son: speeding and not watching were he was going at all times. Be careful out there. Hopefully the guy made it out alive.

dang....someone cuts you off, just forget about it and watch the road.

on another note, ive always wondered about running a camera on my bike. Could have helped me prove that a chick turned left in front of me on a red and caused my wreck in November. If you can PM me what setup he has, i would appreciate it.

Yes, it could prove they were at fault.

Quite often I have my camera mounted on my bike. You ought to see the looks and reaction from other drivers knowing the've been 'caught on film'

It isn't worth getting upset with stupid people....especially when riding your bike. Reacting to their stupidity diverts your attention from the road and will likely place you at greater risk of an accident. I used to "stare down" someone who pulled out in front of me or did something else stupid. I stopped doing that after it became obvious I was making a bad situation worse. Sounds like this guy learned that lesson the hard way. Life is full of hard knocks....it's easier when you can learn from other people's mistakes. I hope the guy recovers okay.

Good warning post. I too have had my share of stare downs (and have learned it's not worth it).

Last year, on an escorted charity ride a car turned in from a side street to the middle of the ride. A husband and wife (riding their own bikes) were separated. The wife was behind the car and chose to pass and catch up... she hit her husbands rear tire upon completing the pass and took 3 bikes down. I learned from that day when traveling on a group ride to be patient. We all know where we are going and we'll get there 'eventually'. No need to pass ANYONE on an escorted ride. It only leads to mistakes. This past weekend I was on another charity ride that took us on the freeway. Semi trucks got caught into our ride and I saw stupidity all over the place as it appeared bikers were racing to get to our next stop. Just dumb.

Thanks for the posting. I'm adding this to my list of lessons learned to become a safer/smarter rider!

When someone cuts me off I just let the exhaust do the talking...right next to his window...no stare needed

Daughter saw one a couple weeks ago. Inattentiveness on the bikers' part resulted in his going into the rear window of an SUV (no helmet/jacket/etc). Bad part was some skin from his shoulder ended up on the inside of the windshield.
