Something's not right, help. 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Just got rid of my fuel pump on my 02 R*. Now it won't start. I've got good spark and with the air cleaner off I can see a squirt of gas go in the carb when I turn the throttle. I was sure I flooded the thing but the plugs were bone dry. Every thing seems to be put back just the way I found it. So what could be going on ?

Same thing happened to me. Did you go above or below the manifold with your hose? How much gas is in the tank? I did not attemp to remove my pump until my tank was near empty. I first tried above and it would start but not stay running. I tried below and it would start and stay running so I left it that way. After running out of gas with 1/4 tank showing on the gas gage I decided the reason it would not stay running above the manifold was because there was not enough gas in the tank to keep proper pressure to gravity feed carb. I could be wrong but after reading everyone else's experiences that's what I figured. Anyway I got tired of having to fill-up at just over 100 miles on the odometer so I put the pump back on and have not regretted it. It still "pukes" every now and then but I can live with that.

I haven't removed my pump yet but from all the info I have picked up from the clinic i would ask if you have vented you fuel cap and disconnected your rollover valve.

BC is right the line needs to go OVER the manifold to the carb. You will also need to vent your caps for better flow and some guys have cut the petcock down to the same level as the reserve tube. I have pingle high flow on both my bikes and have now problem with flow.

If you can see a squirt of gas in the carb when you twist the throttle then you have gas. I'm leaning toward the kill switch as well.......

I did vent the cap. Did it right here while reading the tech article. Just in case I did it wrong, I tried to start it with the cap off. Also filled the tank to get more weight in gas line. I did run my line over the top of the intake. Maybe I have an air bubble. Sure squirts a lot of gas. It's not the kill switch, I played with that, and I do have good spark. What eles could it be hmmmm. I could try some gas in a spray bottle while turning it over. If it wants to start that way it could help me figure it out.

More suggestions please.
