Mirrors 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Could it be true horror story. Was at this store in Ormond Beach (Ya'll know the one) anyhow there was this guy standing outside next to a Roadking. As we were walking up he calls out "hey got a minute?" So we stopped, he was holding one of those tricked flame styled mirrors in his hand. And proceded to tell us about it and how he tried to get the store to give his money back. He pointed at his tour pac and the wrapped passenger backrest. There was a quarter size hole burned into it straight to the box??? It seems that the mirror while parked had refracted like a magnifier and burned it. This cool looking mirror had no coating like OEM mirrors. The store refused to take it back, offered to exchange it though.... Heck no lemme recoup my money I'd say. Now this guy has a damaged backrest and a hole in the tour pac. Imagine what if parked nearby and it shined on a fuel line of another bike. JUST BECAUSE IT LOOKS COOL DOSEN'T MEAN IT'S SAFE.

Hmmm. I think I saw something like this on TV. Maybe Myth busters. They couldn't make it happen because the sun moved across the sky to fast. If the sun sat still long enough it might happen. Anythings possible. Heck I might be a goud speler one dy.

Be tough to do unless the mirror was parabolic like a sat dish. Haven't seen to many mirrors that shape

I personally had this happen. I had a set of maltese cross mirrors on a sportster i used to have. My bike was parked at work and as the sun moved across the sky, the seat had line melted into it. The seat was a stock vinyl covered seat. Switched it to leather and it never happened again.

Had it happen to me a while back. A group of us went riding and stopped at the airport for a break. As we headed back to the bikes we noticed some smoke coming off my stock seat. Then noticed that the bike next to me was directing the sunlight off his mirror onto my bike seat melting it. First time I ever had something like that happen. Glad we caught it when we did. We still get a laugh every now and then when we think about it.
