Which roadie should i buy? HELP 11 Months, 2 Weeks ago
So i'd like some input on which bike would be the best bike for the last bike i buy. It's between the 1600, 1700, or the 08 EFI. Are there any benefits to the EFI bike, worth the extra money? Which motor is better 1600 or 1700? Any reasons not to buy one of the three?

thanks fella's

There are many people on here who know alot more about theses engines than I do but for now
I own a 2004 1700 model and love it. If your looking for a reason not to buy a roadstar you have come to the wrong place I know the 1700 is obviously a bit larger and also revs a bit higher. Also things like the seat, charging system, wheels ect. were updated in 2004 so keep that in mind if you plan on adding lots of goodies to it. I can't speak to the FI bikes, never been around 'em. I'm sure one of these old guru's will be around shortly to give you more info than you could ever want, this is a great site with even better people.

04 and up a few more ponies and rpm's...but the 1600 run great too. If you wanna do pipes and beather, etc. and you have a carb ...youll have to rejet. EFI makes it easier if you dont wanna mess with a carb.

My last three bikes have been FI. I like to "hit the button and go". Not that pulling the choke was difficult. I do know that the FI bikes adjust better to chances in elevation while riding - I believe that's where the O2 sensors come in. You won't be disappointed either way you go.

I had a 2006 RS then traded it in for a 07 electra glide classic. Now I have a 2000 RS. The 1600 has plenty power and seems to handle better than the 06 I had. I am sticking with the carb and simple ignition system. If you do your own repairs this to me is the way to go. I bought my 2000 RS last october and it had only 10,000 miles on it for $3,700. There are plenty of them out there. Good luck with your choise!

I have had a few and they all are good as far as longevity and reliability. If I had my choice though I would buy an 05 or newer carb'd bike with the mag wheels. They have the newer/better brakes, better charging system, rev a little higher, and of course a little larger engine. You can't go wrong with any of them really - there are many of these bikes running around with well over 100K miles on them. Good luck with your purchase!

Like Mr_Shamrock said you can't go wrong either way. I love my '06 but if it's going to be the last one you buy the FI may be the way to go.

I said the same thing when I bought my '01 Midnight Star ... and still feel the same way today. The way these things run, it'll still be going long after I'm gone.

BTW -

EFI...No need for adjustments/jet kits as you add mods and like tibadoe said "hit the button and go."

i have an 06 and love the bike but lately i can't seam to get out of the carb. Between Jet kit's broken parts (my fault) and the other stuff from it's current demon the carb alone has cost me about $300 bucks and 8 trips into it. Not really that big a deal just something i wouldn't have to mess with if i had EFI. Just my .02
