Soreness in back and butt 4 Years, 8 Months ago
Ok, what's the deal on getting rid of rider lower back and ass fatigue? Should I invest $120 in a driver's back rest and retain my stock seats or take this other fella up on his Mustang-seat-for-sale offer? I'm poor, so it would really hit me hard to fork out $300.

What's the best route for driver's fatigue? Will the back rest suffice or should I dump the stock seat combo?

Everybodies different , so answers will be subjective. Are your bars positioned in a comfortable place for your reach? Having to "lean" into the wind to hang on makes short rides feel like long ones. BB

The backrest will most likely help. But can't say for sure. The Mustang is better for some than the stocker but that doesn't mean you will like it. Hows that for not saying anything It's all real personal. The cheaper move would be the backrest I suppose. I had a Mustang on my last bike and loved it. Took about 500 miles to break in but after that it was cush city It does move you forward some.

Do you usually have some type of back problems? As others have said, stop and think about riding postion - are you streched or cramped? Reaching out too much? One thing you may consider is one of those velco back support belts. They go under your shirt, and have some firm supports for the lower back. I get real bad back pain standing at trade shows and this thing helps a lot.

Cheaper fix than a back rest or new seat. There is also a guy on EBay from SC that sells a homemade back rest that I have been looking at. Lower cost then the OEM, you just need to provide your own pad. PM me and I can dig up his seller ID.

Backrest helps I made a home made bracket that fit the passanger pad BUTthat didn't help my pain in the ass. I finally got some memory foam and tore my stock seat apart and put that in it. It was much better after I added the memory foam. Finally I said the hell with it I want CONFORT. $810 later I have an Ultimate seat set and can ride for hours now. I still have the stock seat with the memory foam in it but I sold the backrest. The guy loves it. Like Musky said it is all very personal.

I added a back rest after about 6500 miles of pain. It helped big time with the back ache, but the butt still hurt, like I was sitting on the points of my hip bones. Finally added the Ultimate solo seat, and 2500 miles later, I think it's the best thing I've bought since the bike.
Yeah, the $350 hurt, but made it in about 4 payments and never looked back.

Appreciate your input, fellas. It usually starts with mild lower back pain, then moves to my rear. Sometimes I find myself scooting back on the angled back-side area of the saddle to find comfort.

As far as position, my beach bars have GREATLY helped matters. I cannot imagine going back to stock bars. I'd never go back, but the lower back/butt issue still kicks in after about 30-45 minutes of riding.

Does the increased/sharper back angle of the aftermarket seats seem to help? I noticed that the Mustangs seem to have a steeper angle...almost a back support in itself kind of thing.

Seem like a good deal on the Mustang seat for $300 to you guys?

Seems like a real good deal if they are in the shape stated.

What ever you end up doing with the seat you will want a back rest. I pulled my bars back 2" and with the Utopia back rest my back doesn't bother me at all, and that's after 4 back surgeries. Don't believe I'll ever ride with out one again.
