Seat recommendation 11 Months ago
My wife and I put ~250 miles on today and both agree, we NEED a new seat configuration. The primary issue is her and her lower back. She needs as little pressure on her coccyx bone (tail bone) as we can get. I've got a bad shoulder but that's more of a handle bar issue. But I want to get my seat first so I know where I'll be sitting when I get drag bars.

I've set the budget at around $500. I've come up with 3 options.
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=30&manufacturer_ID=55&product_ID=9196&sblid_name=Saddlemen_Renegade_Solo_Seat___Yamaha_Road_Star_for_Yamaha_1600_1700_Road_Star&model_id=39 (Saddlemen renegade Solo $200) +
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?Category_ID=12&manufacturer_ID=55&product_ID=26373&sblid_name=Saddlemen_Sissy_Bar_Pad__Contoured&model_id=39 (Saddlemen sissy bar pad $$72) +
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=451616&store=Main&catId=408&productId=p451593&leafCatId=40807 (Saddlemen Touring Pillion $143)

OR
http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=39&Category_ID=1&manufacturer_ID=165&product_ID=3085&sblid_name=Star_Yamaha_Accessories_Backrest_Pad___Custom__Studded_for_Yamaha_1600_1700_Road_Star_Silverado (Silverado sissy bar pad and contoured pillion $105) +
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=392676&store=Main&catId=&productId=p392676&leafCatId=&mmyId=5400151 (Kuryakyn driver back rest $180)
stock seat for me

OR
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=454701&store=Main&catId=&productId=p454704&leafCatId=&mmyId=5400151 (Mustang Wide Vintage Seat $373)
http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=499252&store=Main&catId=&productId=p499245&leafCatId=&mmyId=5400151 (Mustang Sissy bar pad $102)

The best pillion looks to be the Saddlemen one because it looks wider and thus will allow more pressure to be spread out. But I have not seen many reviews on it and who better to ask then my fellow Roadstar owners who may have wives (or husbands?) with first hand experience with any of these set ups.

Thanks a ton! BTW, when I get these are there any Hoosiers that would wanna test it out with us?

I cant speak for the Saddleman but most passengers love the Mustang passenger pillion. and I like the riders seat also. I think it is 13" wide for passenger and padded well.

Respects

i agree, i have an ultimate seat, but i too think the mustang vintage wide touring is the way to go. im just too tall for the mustang drivers seat. 6 ft 6 in. plus the price is right. dennis kirk is pretty much the best price ive seen and their shipping is like lightning.

I would look at ERDody Design seats. It might be slightly out of your budget but not much and in think they are as good as you can get. They absolutely solved the tail bone problems. We did 1360 miles in 4 days with no issues. They are in my sig pic. We use a tour pack when we travel so we do use a backrest.

I JUST saw that post from a month ago.

So your wif loved it, eh? The post mentioned discounts for forum members. Is this true?

And is there a sissy bar pad in the works?

How long did it take it to ship?

How was the installation? Does it use the key mechanism?

Re:Seat recommendation 11 Months ago
Oh yeah, she loves it. The benchmark was to get her as comfortable as she was on an Ultra Classic that we rode. We succeeded.

I don't know about the sissy bar pad. We use an oem Star pad when the backrest is installed and the trunk is HD.

He gives clinic members. 10% discount and free shipping. The shipping was very fast. There was no waiting.

They install exactly like oem so no worries there.

I have Ultimate Seats on my Roadstar (driver, passenger and backrests), to me they are very comfortable and they look great. A freind of mine just sold his Roadstar and is trying to sell the Ultimate Seats seperatly, I think he wants $400 or something. These seats are abit expensive but I think all good seats are pricey.

That's an awesome price for the Ultimates, I bought mine new and they were worth every penny (96000 pennies)
