plenty of tire shops will not do a tire due to the slime. i worked at a few, the reason is it is not as simple as power washing the stuff off you have to polish it off the seat edge and this takes more time so the shop will either turn it down or add an extra fee. the extra fee i have seen up to 3x the labor cost.

I used to own a bicycle shop and kept a keg of slime. Hated dealing with it and each tire took a hell of a lot longer to work with. If you are running it in a tube tire and the tube has a hole in it then it's not a simple as just chucking out the old tube, that crap has spread it's way around the inside of the tire as well since you lost pressure. Just bite the bullet and have them clean up the mess. It'll be hard to plug or patch the tire with the slime there so they would have to clean out the inside of the tire very good to make sure an interior patch would stick properly. I would be worried about running around on a patched/plugged tire anyway. Tires are not cheap but...just sayin'

Not the first time I've heard of this either. The shop I use has a sign that says they charge extra for sealant filled tires. Dont know how much though, I dont use the stuff for the very reasons you've brought up. I would hate to be hundreds of miles from home and be told tough luck because of some sealant.

Yea this has long been the practice, Ya see they are kinda pissed you tried to put them out of work by using slime. You got into their livelihood. (That's why the attitude) Same as putting a Car Tire on the Bike pisses off the Bike tire salesman.
That stuff is a mess though. I had it in my lan mower tires and I was a mess when I serviced that tire.
Air that tire up about to the Max on the sidewall and take it for a spin, that leak should seal itself. Due to how slippery that stuff is, a plug won't grip real well, but can be made to work.
Ride on!

More trouble than it's worth ? How hard is it to take it out back and power wash the thing ?
I hate to say it but, I have a feeling he took one look at you and for some reason he decided he didn't want your business. Don't feel bad, happens to me all the time.
I know that same feeling. When I was trying to find someone to paint mine, one guy is right across the street from the fire station I work at. I figured that would be great cause I could just drop it of when I get to work and it wouldn't be out of my way. I couldn't just walk the bike across the road while I was at work. I called over and asked if he would walk across the road and look at it. Heck he could look at it from his office window we were so close. I told him not to go out of his way just for me though. He said sure he would get it as soon as he left out for an errand. He ran 5 differnt errands that day while I was outside, not counting when he left for the day. Never called or anything.
Everyother shop I went to said they would call me back with a price qoute (I was at their shops with the bike). Never heard from them.
I guess either they don't really need the money or are too good to paint a few small pieces for me. I even had cash in hand for the job.
I decided I would just get my dad to help me, plus there would be a little more pride in "doing it yourself".

I've been running Ride-On in my tubeless tires for a while now and have had at least four changed that I can think of that had it in them...at 2 different shops. I never thought to mention that the tires had ride-on and neither shop said anything about it after the tires were changed. I hope it doesn't become a problem at some point because I plan on continuing to use it.

I've always been taught to empathize not sympathize. Then you will understand people. Put yourself in the shoes of the tire changer. Let HIM pull the tire and YOU clean it up. I bet you'll see things in a different light if you do.
