Harley or Roadstar/Yamaha? 11 Months ago
|
|
In the market to buy a new bike in the future. Eveybody seems to have Harleys and I am still riding my 2000 Roadstar. I need to hear Pros and Cons from all the Roadstar/Yamaha owners. I will keep my Roadstar but want to buy a rigged out highway/touring bike with all the features. I like my Roadstar and never owned a Harley. Any and all comments welcome.

with the economy the way it is, and the glut of bikes out there, why buy new? There are some great deals to be had on extreme low mileage bikes that are only a couple yrs old. Let them take the roll off the lot depreciation. Just something to think about. And if you are looking for something with all the toys, probably HD

IMO only
Roadstar= BIGGER,STRONGER, $$ you will have alot of extra money to customize your star, low low low maintenance, sounds as good or better than harley(remember IMO) , you kinda get that harley look but its a star ppl mistake this bike all the time
Harley= $$$$$$$$$$$$, nice motorcycle, you get a decal on the side that says Harley Davidson
Just not a big harley fan, not bashing just personal preference, trust me i have look and looked and looked at all types of bikes, i have had harley guys at show eyeball my bike and ask me about it
go get the star worse that could happen is you fall in love and never look back , or sell and get the HD
sry just noticed you have a roadstar

If I wanted to build a touring rig, I'd find another RS. (I wouldn't be able to do that, though, don't have the time/talent.)
If I wanted to buy a touring rig, I'd get a used HD.

I have had both, loved both. I have an Ultra Classic now I bought new, 16,000 trouble free miles later I still love it. You will do well either way.

i fought that when i totaled my roadie. What made me switch to a HD streetlide, was how everything was already there (ie electronic cruise/gauges/fairing, stereo and everything was integrated - ie control stuff from handle controls), dealer support, parts and availability.
now after owning a brand new motorcycle, id prob never do it again, save a few grand buying one that just was broken for ya.
the 2012 hds come with their 103 std now.
are looking at a softtail or a bagger?

If money were no object neither HD nor R* would be my choice. I think I would opt for either a decked out Goldwing or, a really nice BMW.
IMHO those two are the ultimate when it comes to touring/OTR bikes both for comfort and performance reasons.

Guess it depends on taste and demands. Find a left over and have a wad of cash in hand to help the leverage the $$ down. I love my RoadStar but really like the look and features offered on the HD Street Glide. So if I could find one for the right money then hell yea.
Also the Star has the Strat Deluxe with a few add on parts would be great too. But it does lack the Cruse Control and such.
My guess is you cant go wrong if you follow your desires.
