So what happened to the deer? Did the bike hit it?

Naw man, Bambi came back for more and a car hit him! My wife said he was laying there dead today, it was probably the same one. I guess he thought a bike missing him by a whisker wasn't enough. (:

Glad you're ok. I went down 2 weeks ago, and almost same scenario. The fatty crash bars and saddlebags save me from getting caught underneath the bike. I ordered my new fatty bars. As far as saddlebags go they were irreplaceable. Again, good to hear you walk away from that one alive.

I always love to hear the words of someone who just biffed, there is a lot to learn and take away from what you tell.
I also believe in the Crash Bars that Yamaha Sales is trained to refer to as "Engine Guards" Even though the little warning on them says they will not protect you in a crash, It's obvious that's a lie. They were they only thing keeping me from being trapped with hot exhaust burning through my boot.
Glad you rode it out ok, Nice job, but yaaaa we know you were strictly a passenger the moment Bambi darted out.
I would rather ride out Snow than, Dark, Rain and wildlife or any combination of the three.
Good luck to you ad your bike on a speedy recovery. Thanks for the info.

My son said the bike drifted on the road bad, I know it tended to drift before I laid it down though.
Anybody got any ideas on what the cause of the bike drifting like that could be? There is no reason that I can find that would make the bike drift.
I'm going to tell the dealer about it after my insurance adjuster gets through, but they will probably swear up and down it was caused by the accident, I know it wasn't though.
I'm going to insist they re-balance the wheels and check it for alignment.
Since I can't ride for at least a week, I'm going to take my time and think it through. I had vacation time coming though and I'm going to take advantage of that.
Its really tempting to get on the bike and ride today, but the Doc says I need to keep my right elbow straight for at least a week.
I'm tempted to give the Doc the right handed finger, but I knew a guy who didn't listen to the Doc and an ankle sprain caused him to end up loosing his leg. Doc said if I bend my elbow it'll break loose again.
Well..here I am yammering, nothing else to do but yammer at whoever wants to listen, but hear this, those crash bars they call engine guards probably saved my legs, possibly my life, and I am positive it saved my bike from more damage than if I didn't have them.
No matter how good a rider or as safe a rider as you think you are, crap happens..it just happens and that,s all there is too it.
I do thank you guys and gals for prayers and well wishes..it hasn't gone unappreciated.
Sargent Cee, how did you fair health wise in the accident? I hope you weren't hurt.

Ya know, I sure hate to seem like the anti-christ here, and perhaps I am missing some parts of the story's that are being told about laying your bike's down, and, I mean no disrespect whatsoever and am very happy y'all are making it out of this extreme measure with minor scrapes and pains/injury's....but, in all my years of being on a bike, it's been drilled into my head that laying one down is the absolute last thing you want to do.....like the deer story for instance, when you put your bike down, did you skid past the front of the deer or behind the deer? Either case, you didn't hit the deer, therefore, I would think you could have stayed on your rubber with some simple basic avoidance manuevers and avoided all the pain, I ain't knocken what ya did or how ya did it, hell, ya stayed alive in good fashion, and, I guess thats what it's all about in the end, just trying to get my head around it is all

I hate to agree with Jona, but what he is saying is true. I've read a lot about basic avoidance maneuvers and have even practiced them, it's always better to stay up and in control than to lay it down. Now how will I react when it's my turn?? I can't say, but I hope to be able to write about it like you are today.
Like everyone else, I'm glad your going to be OK and the bike isn't totaled. Get well soon, and get back up and ride!
