Beach Bars -Can someone please tell me the diff... 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
OK, so from what I understand, there are three choices of Beach Bars for the Roadstar: Burly, Nostalgia, and Bikini. Are there others? Which is widest/ lowest? So what are the differences? What are your experiences? If I want to add a batwing later, will there be a problem with using beach bars due to their width or being too low?

Thanks.

Re:Beach Bars -Can someone please tell me the diff... 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
ok since I went through this myself

barons has the nostalgia bar
http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Barons_Nostalgia_Bar_Handlebar_p/ba-7307-00.htm

burly has the beach bar
http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Burly_Brand_Beach_Bars_1_Yamaha_RoadStar_B28_p/0601-0917.htm

and burly also has the bikini beach bar
http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/Burly_Brand_Bikini_Beach_Bars_1_Yamaha_RoadSta_p/0601-0916.htm

besides the specs these are the best prices I found when I bought mine. the burly bars also come 1 1/4 inch dia. the burly beach bars are the widest and lowest and those are what I went with in 1 1/4 inch don't know about the fairing but I dont think there would be any problem I hope this helps

I have the Baron's starbar on my bike. It's quite a bit wider than stock plus I was able to still use the stock cables and brake hose. I sure do like how it improved the handling of my bike. I bet it would with a batwing.

Re:Beach Bars -Can someone please tell me the diff... 10 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Thanks guys, that's good info.

Well here's my concern: the other day, while sitting at my desk, I made an interesting observation. Sitting in most chairs, your weight is mainly on the lower part of the buttocks and upper thighs. This is ideal as there are no pressure points. When on my Roadie, I sit with my weight back on my tail bone which becomes increasingly painful over time. You can recreate this in an office chair, by placing your feet flat on the floor out in front of you, like they would be on your floor boards, then place your hands out in front of you like they would be on your stock bars. You'll notice as you do this, your weight shifts back on the tail bone. [at least it does for me] Then try reaching out wider and slightly forward, and you can see the weight shifts back to the upper thigh/lower buttocks and relieves the pressure on the tail bone. So this is what I'm shooting for; bars that will take my weight off my tail bone and shift it forward, but I'm a little concerned as some of these beach bars seem to have a lot of pull back, which would defeat the purpose. Is this true?

Lastly, for those of you with beach bars, could you post some photos and state which bars you have?

Cheers!

This only works if you are taller than six feet: sit at your desk, put your chair all the way up and reach down to a spot just about six inches from your knees, around desk high for me. Feel that weird stretch between your shoulder blades? That gets worse with miles. As far as looks go they were my favorite. Also, my elbows hit the passengers knees and not in a good way.

beach bars have a LOT of pullback thats the reason for running them, they're also wider. these two things combined put you in a more comfortable riding position and make your bike feel lighter. it also relives the position and pressure on your shoulders and wrists. if your worried about your lower back and tailbone then you need to invest in a good seat such as ultimate or er dody .they are both discussed here on the forum in fact you could probably just ask jona as he just did a very good review, and he used to pimp the ultimate saddles as well. also you might want to invest in a drivers back rest as well. I know all these thing combined aren't cheap since this is the route im going as well but like the saying goes being a biker aint cheap (unless you want a rat bike ) again I hope this helps. good luck with your decision

Ok here is my old bike before I turned it into a trike for my wife.

Burly Beach Bars with Corbin Touring Saddle, and fairing. Depending on the fairing you might need pull back risers. I used the Baron's DT riser to give me more room and not hit the stereo portion of the fairing.
I have sat in that corbin seat from Parker,Arizona all the way to Evanston Wy. approximately 742 miles. Found the beach bars to be the most comfortable bars. As for tailbone. That was one nice thing about the corbin seat with drivers back rest, if I started to get sore I could sit up and push my back up against the drivers back rest and get my tailbone off the seat. I would ride this way for a couple of miles and then sit back down. It allows the blood to flow through the area again and I would be fine for awhile. When you end up stopping for gas every 160 miles you can give your butt a rest.

A better seat is definitely in the plans however, I'm thinking the bars may help too. Shoulder fatigue is not an issue for me, I've ridden sport bikes for years with most of my weight on my hands, so moving a little forward should not be an issue. Perhaps not quite traditional beach bars, but something wider and shorter might do the trick. Anyone know of a particular bar that fits that bill? I don't want drag bars or anything straight, I want to stick with the classic look, just not so far back and wider than stock. I'm 6ft tall but I have the torso of someone who's about 6.4ft. My inseam is only 29 inches... so my feet are fine on the floor boards, it's up top that I need to work on.

I guess you could say I'm built like an classic cartoon character.

While were at it... I've heard others mention issues with grips and cables when swapping out bars. I have the Iso Grips and new Stainless Lines. Will there be a problem with either or should I be OK?
