Figures...that's what I get for using a French pen in a Japanese bike...

Seriously, though, I'm at a loss...bike runs great, no detectable leaks...crappy mileage.

RK ,for grins, what's your pilot a 37.5? Them things is gas hogs! (read that sentence with your best southern draw). That windshield doesn't help matters. I only run mine on long roadtrips and winter time (short down here). BB

I get 42 to 44, pretty consistent. My 50+ mile daily work commute puts me in the 75 to 80 mph range alot....just trying not to get run over on Mich freeways If I stay under 75 mileage picks up to around 45-46. Yeah Musky, I know it's uncorrected I try to fill her to the top of the tube every time. Best ever was 47.5, lots of back roads, lower speeds, easy cruising...

Bike is a '99, stock except stage 3 on the exhaust, AIS removed, and a little PMS tweaking...use mostly Shell fuel...AMSOIL in the engine and tranny.....windshield on always....20K miles on her...I know, I know, low miles but I only got her in Sept last year and have put on 7K since then!

Got the poor mans BAK, K&N, and a Dynojet kit ready and sitting on the bench. When it gets too cold to ride (hopefully not till Nov) I'll tear into her, port the manifold and put it all in....maybe sooner if I get a free weekend and it's raining Hopefully, with LOTS of good advice from you guys I'll pick up the performance and equal or improve my mileage

It's the price you pay for living in paradise.

Remember it's the elevation. At4000' you've lost about 12% power. So if I'm running at 70 hp you would be at 62.

The gas you are running is probably also less dense than that at sea level = less power.

Or maybe it's because your bike is white.

Musky,

I like your theory of draining the tank for 3 or 4 fills, putting in exactly 5 gallons, etc. If you have a GPS, you can really nail down the distance you can go before having to push the bike home.

I have an alternate theory, though. If I fill up my tank sometime soon after the fuel light comes on, I'm pretty sure I can continue to ride.

I will say this, though: despite the inaccuracies of measurement, I'm averaging 42-45 mpg running all stock on my Silverado. I've gotten 51.6 mpg on one long trip, all highway at about 60-65 mph. I've averaged 37-40 all highway when running 75 mph or faster for 13 hours in one day.

I think we're all relatively close.

I was kinda thinking of carrying some gas with you when you got close to empty.

Problem is is that you can fill the tank "up" a few times just sitting there. fill it to the rim, let it go down, fill it again, let it go down...... And it depends on how slow you put it in as to how soon it will hit the rim. So it's not accurate to say I filled it to the rim unless you are looking at the exact gallons and then can fill it up to the exact same place again. Ain;t gonna happen. So if you really want to know you have to be working with set repeatable perameters. And even then it won't be right.

I average 44-47 most tanks. I have gotten 50 a couple of times on lazy long rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Taking the theroy alittle to the extreme you could weigh the gas I think thats how Nascar does it.... . Word of caution the tank is pretty heavy full..
