I'm running my 2000 stock except for V&H Longshots. I weigh in at 195 and run 70-80 mph 95% of the time and get 35-40 mpgs. Elevation is around 1000 feet all the time.(It's thought to be flat here in Kansas) My best mileage was 40.5 mpgs. I've measured it by filling setting to 0, filling again and dividing.... and I've measured the other pain in the @$$ way. Both come out in that range. And it's always been that way.

Changed my main jet over the Weekend from the 190DJ to a 180DJ, no changes in the way it performs, still seems to have all the guts it had before, am on my 3rd tank of gas and am averaging the same (42.8)as I did with the 190 (41-46), but the bike is running leaner, but not lean if that makes sense.

OK....I might as well wade in .....
If you want to get the most accurate figure for mpg ....
Fill your tank up, set the odo to zero and run the bike until the light goes on or close, it does not matter. Go fill the tank up to a certain point (look in the tank  ) and note how much it takes to fill it up. Then run it down again. Do this for a number of times, each time noting how much you put in and filling to the small level in the tank.
Once you have done this a number of times, add up the total number of gallons you have put in the tank and divide that into the odo reading.
If you do this you will minimize the error that you get each time you fill up. The more miles you go the more accurate you will be.
But you do realize that the way you drive has more of an effect on the mpg value than the small error in not getting the fuel level to the same mark each time.

I have moved my jetting around a number of times to get the engine to run the way I wanted. I strongly recommend reading your plugs carefully and jetting accordingly. Altitudes, Octane, air temp, driver weight all effect the way your engine runs. There is no set rule
Changing your jetting to improve mileage is not wise. As stated, you right hand controls your mileage as much as your jetting.
You read all kinds of claims on various forums claiming great mileage numbers. They're worth what you paid to read them. Nothing!
If your plugs are running a nice color, and you engine is running good, the smart way to improve your mileage is to slow down. Or maybe calculate your mileage on your fingers

I agree with ya totally on this one Doc! It is the only way to truly find an accurate result of MPG.
My last long trip was 926.7 Km's, over the whole trip my "average" was 63 Mpg (Imp. gallon)
On the short "single tank" fillup calculations I get anywhere between 52 to 68 Mpg.
(Total useage over a longer distance is a better way to calculate average consumption, as your "error factor" becomes smaller and less relevant.  <br><br>Post edited by: DocShadow, at: 2007/09/05 22:13

I have full faring and get around 40 mpg city and 46 mpg hi way or not following the signs 36 and 38. That would be filled to first rim and fill at light coming on.
I have baron 2 into one pipe run amsoil Main is 195 DJ pilot .031 a 135 drilled needle is on 4th clip did the fuel pump 2.0 to 2.5 to gravity swap PMS is 3/4 out and accel nut flipped. I also have a BAK with K&N ported intake plus a dynojet venturi run a dyno 3000 36a 5000 and I forget what my retard is set at. Alt. is around 3600 if I remember right.
